Looking to purchase a Falcon (Im in the USA).

Post by hunter_alexande »

Been a long time since I was on here.

Nice to be back. Anyways, I am interested in purchasing a Falcon. I have roughly 30k to play with. Cash.

I have been looking over the past 4 months, and wow, prices have jumped. It looks like it will be impossible to get a Falcon now that would be a decent start to anything.

Any thoughts, or ideas?

My first thought was well maybe someone in the states would be willing to part with a project Falcon that they have, but I honestly havent the slightest on where to start looking for one, either here in the US or in Australia.

EDIT* - Obviously I am not looking to buy a rust bucket. Just looking for a solid body with all the interior pieces there. Without motor/trans is fine.

Have you tried http://www.madmaxcars.com/? They are probably the best source in the states. They are getting more rare and more people know about Aussie cars now then in the old days which drive the prices up.

Keep in mind, that with all the mad max accessories, rebuilding the coupe and painting it, you'll easily run 80-100 thousand dollars. 30,000 you would be lucky to just get a XB Coupe that's drivable (it wouldn't be viable to import junk).

Thanks. Yes, I know and see the prices these are going for.

And no, I do not want to and am not interested in importing junk.

I restored my Cutlass a few years back, body off, every nut and bolt. So I know whats involved, and would rather start with a nice body, interior, and go from there. Even then it will be a pricey endeavor.

Who knows. Might not be feasible. Might just pick up another car to build.

Wish I would have purchased 10 years ago when I almost pulled the trigger. Half the price they are now and for a better car. Ugh.

Haha ya thats when i purchased mine from MadMaxcars.com it was just a rolling shell with very minimal rust (all things considerd) and a junkyard 460/c6. By the time i got it in my driveway i had spent approx $8000. !! To me at the time i felt as though i had saved a 100grand and blew it all on a project car!! AHH. Now after ten years its really small potatoes what i spent to get my car and build it up too! I just got my insurance pollicy rates raised just cuz i hadent noticed how the coupes have jumped in price in the last three years!! What i had it insured for would have put me in the same boat your in looking for a coupe now. Could have gotten a car but man talk about starting over from nothing! I would have no money left to get it running and be nice. Funny thing is in 2010 i would have considerd selling mine for 35-40k. Glad i didnt!

I am just getting tot he point where I was about to post this in its own thread anyway, so your in luck I will post here in responce to your inquiry.

Just arrived at www.madmaxcars.com so recently that it is not event listed in the classified section yet, but also leaked enought that inquiries are starting to come in anyway.....

NOW AVAILABLE IN THE USA

1973 XA Falcon Coupe
Color: Playboy Pink / Black
Interior: White/black

351C 4bbl (peppy), AT, XA GT Bonnet/ Rims w/centers/Grille & Lamps, Shaker,
Needs some work, but esentially a runner/driver. Good for a XA GT Clone or start your replica with a top notch bodykit from MMC.

This car has been in the states for about a decade now. Was a MMC show car at Dearborn Ford 100th show, but sold to a new collector who had mothballed (indoors) for the last few years.

Feel free to contact MMC about it directly, as they have all the details.

Looks like the listing price for the car will be $30,000, so looks in your price range besides. Hard to believe, it seems like a screamin deal with what decent XA,B,C coupes are going for now, and MM4 looming up so soon ready to drive prices higher.
