That looks more like a shifter for an automatic than a 4 speed like the original had.

Correct, but nobody noticed the other item of detail near the shifter?

Any reason the car is an automatic? My best guess is simpler for the stunt driver. He can concentrate on driving instead of shifting. Easier for the actor to drive as well or he can't drive a manuel.
