Yes, thanks! Any idea who the current owner is? I vaguely remember hearing many years ago Mel Gibson himself kept the jacket after filming Road Warrior. That costume should be in a museum. It's as iconic as Indiana Jones' fedora hat.

Sorry I can't say who the owner is but it is defiantly not mel. You are spot on about it should in a museum, but I doubt it will ever get seen as the owner is quiet protective of it all, which is a shame. :(

anyone know who made the leathers for the production? (Hoping they outsourced it a la Tony Nowak for the Indiana Jones jackets, that way some nice replicas could be made!)

Looking again at the new pic and noticed that it looks very similar to Kevin Costner in The Postman. Does anyone else get the same vibe.

Yeah, I'm not too big on the scarf. For now, I give the whole outfit a 7 1/2 out of a 10.

However, I think Hardy looks bad-ass enough to be Max. I give him a 9 out of a 10.

After looking at the photo for some more, here's some thoughts...

This is not beginning-of-the movie Max (left hand is injured). He looks a lot like an "infantryman" - that scarf is obviously to protect neck and face from sand (thunderdome style), his facce and lips look sandblasted. There's stuff hanging over his right shoulder, the whole holster looks a bit like a backpack. Perhaps some kind of improvised camelback hydration device. That's something a resourceful fella like Max would construct. That thing on his right wrist looks a lot like a broken handcuff...

Apart from the knife, there are no weapons on him, no shotgun holster... weird for Max, there should be at least dozen weapons/gadgets dangling around.

Wild guesses inbound: the interceptor was stolen (or camels, or whatever he rides nowadays), he was hurt, disarmed and left to die. Of course, it's not that easy to discourage Max, so he gets up, improvises a water container, grabs a knife and goes on-foot in pursuit of stealing bastards. That vehicle behind him is probably just a wreck found along the way.
Some time afterwards he runs into either Charlize's black guys or Toecutter 2.0's silver guys and joins them on their trek down the fury road. Five wives story begins. The Interceptor is later found converted into the silver one with jacked up rear end.

I don't know, given the setting it seems appropriate and it actually be a similar head-wrap Max had in BTD but it's hard to tell from the low resolution of the photo. I haven't seen BTD in a long time but doesn't it end with him all garbed up in his gear with the head-wrap/turban and heading off in to the Wastelands?

Interesting theory. :) Again if we use Thunderome as a jumping off point he wouldn't have the shotgun since he turned it and all his other weapons in at Bartertown. Still though you'd think if he found or salvaged another Interceptor he'd of possibly found more weapons but again the low res of the photo makes it hard to see the details and the fact that Instagram applied that washed out filter over the photo doesn't help.

I think he looks awesome as 'max'.

Not saying anything about the costume yet, need better pictures first.

Its very interesting after seeing months of leaked photos of the vehicles too big to hide and very few character pics, this signed crew photo is the first photo of Tom as Max.

He looks cool. I hope his hair line lasts for another 2 sequals!
