The musuem was almost empty of people. I was able to spend a full hour alone with the Interceptor. I was careful not to touch anything. Cameras were everywhere. A "manager" guy would walk through occassionally, but he knew nothing about the car. He didnt even know it is from Australia.
I was a little shocked at the condition of the car. It was once restored back a very shiny appearance. There had been a great effort to restock Max's supplies like the Dinki Di case and can. The area that housed the car was dimly lit with warehouse type flourescent lights. There was a huge carousel with hundreds of lights that overpowered many photos. I took my time and made many pics. Several reveal cracks, dents, scuffs, pealing bondo, rust, etc. It appears much of the "damage" occured after the restoration before it went to Cars of the Stars in Keswick, England.
The interior was close to the condition as seen in the Road Warrior. I could not see a gas pedal for some reason. The roll cage was more extensive than I had first thought. The tires on the front were 14's? I expected 15's. The rear tires were 265/50/15. I'm quite these were 295's during filming. The blower casing is a Cragar? Eh? The twin fuel tanks were painted shiny black at some point. I seem to remember the 'resoration' before COS, had the tanks in flat black-that would have looked better. The headlight covers have been 'corrected' to clear pieces with gold grills. I took several pics of the support braces underneath. The headlights lookd asif they had been underwater for a long time. There is some kind of 'voodoo' head strapped to the dash. Not sure where that came from.
The time was special. To actually see and experience the real car was amazing. I have driven replicas and Falcons several times.
This.........was an event like no other. If you can....go see it.
