A Real Sawed-off Shotgun

Post by amc72jav »

Good day, ladies & gents,

I don't post here, much, but I do browse the forum, often. While I was looking at another forum, I found a topic about a damaged shotgun, that was turned into a replica of Max's shotgun. For those who are not familliar with American gun laws, the author mentions "registered it on a Form 1, paying $200- to make it a short barreled shotgun", which means he paid a tax, got permission to cut down the shotgun (to shorter than minimum legal measurements) & the paperwork (a tax stamp) to prove that he is legal. Here are the pictures, and his description:
This shotgun was in the back of a truck headed for the junk yard. Looks like someone shoved a 20 gauge down the barrel and followed with a 12 gauge. Barrel was blown just past the hand guard at about 13", someone had to change their shorts after that.

I paid $20- for the poor thing and registered it on a Form 1, paying $200- to make it a short barreled shotgun. Stock removed and barrels cut to 9.75", this thing WILL get your attention when fired!!

So here we are with the before and after pictures. Baker Gun Company, Batavia Special, 12 gauge, 9.75" barrels, 18.25" OAL. ETA: This is my Mad Max special. I used screen shots from the movie while creating this beast. Left as much rust as possible for that post-apocalyptic look. Barrel work done by Gary at Gary's Bunker http://garysbunker.com/ another awesome job.
It was a "crowd pleaser" last week at a local shoot. I put the gun on a bench next to a full .50 can full of shells and told everyone to finish off the ammo.

The stamp took the usual five months, but it's always worth the wait.

Interesting. Looks like the front of the forend was cut down and modified too. I have a Stevens 5100 with a similar forend to that one (pre-modification).

Beautiful job. Although this short a shotgun is only going to work up close and personal. The spread of the pellets would make it ineffective at longer range. .00 buckshot or deer slugs would be the best ammunition choice. Bird shot would be as useless as rock salt. :geek:

They were called 'Post office specials", so you could hide them under your jacket before and after you rob the post office.

Funny, in the country that spawned Mad Max, the guns are illegal, replicas of the guns are illegal, and even the cars are illegal.
