Hello from Arizona USA

Post by azcycle »

I've already posted a couple times in the Fury Road vehicles thread but thought I'd officially introduce myself. I've been a Mad Max fan since I saw Road Warrior on television when I was a kid, though it was after MM3 was on VHS. Of course it was the highly-edited and overdubbed version ... I'm pretty sure it was the "Lost" version. But it was fascinating enough that I went out and rented all three films PLUS a VHS player. Remember when you could actually rent a VHS player? :D Of course, I used that to make bootleg copies of all three movies for myself and eventually wore them out from playing them so much. I remember being quite shocked at the violence in the theatrical releases once I saw them.

In Junior High and High School I got into Dungeons & Dragons, gaming, etc and actually created my own "Mad Max" style role-playing game that actually got pretty popular in my nerdy group of friends. I also wrote an entire MM-inspired fantasy novel (initially wanted to write three) and submitted it for publication my senior year in high school. It (naturally) got rejected but I still have the original electronic files and have been contemplating revisiting the series and self-publish. The "creative" forum here fanned that low-burning flame a bit so maybe I'll have to start posting some old chapters and get some feedback from ya'll.

Of course with our first child on the way in October, I doubt I'll have time for that. :D And get this .... our upcoming boy is named Max. I swear I didn't plan that, but I'm going to get a lot of life out of it. I see future Halloween costumes...

Other than that... I love cycling, particularly mountain biking. Also a part-time gear head. I've got a 1965 Mustang and a 1981 BMW r65 motorcycle that I love to tinker with.

Welcome! I played D&D for a while in the early '90s, but it was the typical game. For me, more of an excuse to drink beer and be with friends. A Mad Max D&D, that's very cool.
If you have another boy, maybe the wife will let you name him "Wez"?
Or Jim, and nickname him Goose?

Welcome!

Liking the sound of the D&D game and the novel. If you want any technical help with self publishing then fire away, it's pretty easy stuff now.

Ha! I like the nickname "Goose." Thanks for the welcome,I'll have to dig up some of the old writing. Here are a couple shots of my "toys."

1965 Mustang - been in my family since new. Unrestored (though repainted the original color back in 1991).

And here's the Airhead. 1981 BMW r65. It was my father-in-laws and I inherited when he passed away in 2009. He designed and built the saddle and saddlebags himself. He was quite the fabricator and built a lot of cool motorcycles in his day.

I will have to agree with Seriz.
AZ is a beautiful state.
Could almost film a MM movie there...
