I'm not so keen on all these old timey hot rods and rat rods being in the film. Have you ever seen what happens to a 1920 or 1930 era car when it's in a crash? Even if it's a 1930s body sitting on a slightly more modern frame, you're talking about something that would be totally inappropriate for rear-ending, ramming, side-swiping, or T-boning other cars.
Sure, weird hot roddy things have their place in the MM universe, but I just hope they won't squeeze out the XBs, utes, Landaus, Commodores, and other Aussie-American iron that we all love so dearly.

I keep hoping that the high tech looking mounting hardware that we see may be for camera equipment rather than some kind of gun. The mount does seem incongruous with the rest of the vehicle mechanicals.

Mad Max 4, Fury Road seems to be up and running as convoys of strange-looking monster cars and trucks started leaving Walvis Bay en route to an undisclosed film set in the Namib Desert.
Contrary to rumours that the filming of the 4th Mad Max movie has been delayed, co-star Charlize Theron apparently revealed recently in a television interview that filming will start on 2 June. The frantic activity currently taking place on the coastal roads is a clear indication that something is happening as Mad Max films revolves around cars, trucks and even stranger motorcycles. These pictures were taken on Tuesday, a mere 4 days before the date mentioned by Theron.

Oh boy, another monster truck.

Re: Possible pictures of actual Fury Road vehicles
I think that last one is one monster truck too far for me....

Re: Possible pictures of actual Fury Road vehicles
What's next, are they also going to fill this movie with professional wrestlers?
Re: Possible pictures of actual Fury Road vehicles
I look at that shitty monster truck and I'm reminded of his track record with sequels... (post Kennedy).
Mad Max 3.
Babe 2.
Happy Feet 2.
Give it 18 months and I'm expecting to add a fourth to the list.

Flame throwers and harpoons.L88 wrote:I'm not asserting that they are definitely machine guns, I don't know what they are, but the shape of one of them in particular (on the right side of the main tanker trailer) I find characteristic of the silhouette that machineguns like the M60 tend to adhere to. Granted, it appears to be wrapped in protective plastic and may even just simply be a temporary placeholder/stand-in until filming.
That's all.

I thought I'd never say this but:
MMBT cars made more sense than those FR monstrosities.
We need to put this into perspective now, FR has nothing to do with the original movies other than the title. Miller wants to cash in on the franchise he and Byron created years ago and he just doesn't care about extending it in a way that would both satisfy fans and the new audience. He just wants some cash from a summer flick for kids. Which is a big mistake IMO because he based this movie on a 25 year old franchise almost none of young movie goers are familiar with. Maybe he realized it and detached FR from MM completely, leaving it for the new audience only. Which explains the direction this thing is taking. Supermodels, 'pure breed' plot comes up time and time again, crazy twisted cars. Yeah I'm pretty sure that Fury Road has almost nothing to do with Mad Max now. I hope he gets his money back, but I'll stick with the original franchise thank you.

And how do you know whether they make sense or not? You haven't a clue as to what kind of world building Miller has done for this movie. My bet is that they'll make perfect sense within the context of the film. And BTW, monster vehicles were built for Mel's "Mad Max 4" too. My guess is that WRT to the vehicles and action scenes, this movie won't be much different from that one, just larger in scope.Taipan wrote:MMBT cars made more sense than those FR monstrosities.
Title and concept, but otherwise this Mad Max universe will be a different one from the earlier films. 30 years on and with no Mel Gibson, how can it not be. And as for why Miller just doesn't give Hardy's character another name, it's because he can't. The studio requires that tie in because of the franchise name recognition. Basically, it's "No Max, No Movie". It's the reason why Ridley Scott was able to get 'Prometheus' made. However loosely, it had to tie into the Alien franchise. Haven't seen it, but I understand it would have been better off if it wasn't connected.Taipan wrote:We need to put this into perspective now, FR has nothing to do with the original movies other than the title.
Extend what? With Mel out, the original MM films are at an end. They have to be, or don't you see the "No Mel, No Max" chants that still make the rounds all over the internet. With a new actor, rebooting is about the only way this will work, particularly if Warner Bros wants a trilogy out of it (you know, the guys who are risking the +$200 million on it).Taipan wrote:Miller wants to cash in on the franchise he and Byron created years ago and he just doesn't care about extending it in a way that would both satisfy fans and the new audience.
Really, that's all he wants? Cash, from kids?Taipan wrote:He just wants some cash from a summer flick for kids.

It's not his money. And why does one have to choose one franchise over another. I'm not saying this movie will be good, but at least I'll be judging it on it's own merits and not on the fact that it isn't the movie I was once hoping to see. That movie died 9 years ago.Taipan wrote:I hope he gets his money back, but I'll stick with the original franchise thank you.
