The Jacket

Post by PacificMuscle »

There has been a great deal of debate about the jacket ... was it the same jacket in MM2 etc ...

Here's a pic ... not that great as it is a screen cap from a VHS tape ... that confirms Grant Page's version of events.

At the conclusion of filming Grant had destroyed his leathers performing various stunts. As the production was broke they offered Mel's jacket and pants as a replacement rather than buying Grant new leathers. Grant accepted and wore both for many years until a house fire destroyed most of his belongings including the jacket.

The pic shows Grant wearing a very familiar jacket while on set with his then wife and stunt performer Zenda. Zenda now runs Zen Stunts agency.

Interesting. I don't know why there was any debate whether or not it was the same jacket in MM2, they're clearly different jackets, different patterns etc..

One thing this doesn't clear up is whether or not Max's jacket was leather or vinyl. It has often been said that only one jacket was leather (due to budget), but it always looked to me like Goose's jacket was the leather one. It REALLY looks like leather and it would have made sense from a safety standpoint since it was the only one that was going to be used on a motorcycle.

Has Grant Page said that his jacket was definitely Max's and not Goose's? If so, then perhaps there were TWO leather ones? Or maybe poor Goose (and the stunt riders) were riding in vinyl...

Definately Mel's jacket and pants. He doesn't refer to Max's jacket or the Mad Max jacket ... but as Mel's jacket.

He doesn't recall Gooses jacket material or what happened to it.

After watching MM a couple of times,I realized something,Leather and Vinyl have different color tones,Max's jacket is darker than the others and seems to "lay" like decent quality leather would, mind you this is just my observation of the matter. As for Goose's jacket I'm leaning heavily tword leather for the same reason.bty does anyone know if the actor who played Goose (I'm sorry I don't remember his name)actually rode the Kawi?,It looks like he is in some scenes.

I remember reading somewhere that George Miller kept Max's jacket and leather pants and had them tucked away. I believe this had something to do with MMIV.

Pursuit Special - I believe you're thinking of Mel's MM2 jacket, whereas we're talking here about the MM1 jacket.
My understanding is that George does still have the outfit from MM2/MM3. In fact, I was told by a senior MM4 crew member that they had the original MM2/3 outfit to look at when they were figuring out what they wanted to do for MM4 (this was about 2 years ago).

I may have read that George still had "the leathers" and assumed it was from MM1?

As I tell my students at film school - "Assumption is the mother of all Fu@#ups".

An oldie but a goodie.

My question is this PS.

Why would you then dismiss the clear recollection of one of the principal players in the making of the film backed up by photographic evidence in favour of some half remembered magazine article?

On second thought don't bother. Ignorance is the only answer that covers it.

I'm heartily sick of the bickering, backstabbing and purile know-all beligerence of so many on this board.

To the core of decent, grenerous and open folks I've had fair dealings with, freely exchanged information and leart so much from here ... thanks.

I'm taking a break from posting here ... feel free to add me to your shit list.
