I am building a replica of the "Red XA Wipeout", and have decided its time to make another outfit to add to my max costume collection (the driver). I have come up with some general questions from the movie, and looking into the costume section of the FAQ.

Mostly, is it always the same guy driving the red XA? Its hard to tell in the final chace.

he other thing that confuses me is the names for the villians. Smegma Crazies, Gayboy Beserkers, etc. Are these names taken from the script or credits, or maybe somthing the costumer used to define the charicters? I have heard so many names for the villians, bad cop, grods, vermin, maruaders, baddies, scavangers, etc. What is correct, and why?

Thanks for any help....

As far as who drives the car it is hard to say if it is the exact same guy the whole movie. They are all marrauders (the bad guys). Humungus' gang is made of several types of guys likely from former small gangs. These names are taken from the script. The Gayboy Berserkers are either former cops or wearing cop outifts. These are the silver helmet leather jacket guys in the muscle cars. The Smegma crazies are the guys that drive the dune buggies, they wear coveralls furs and cold weather face masks from the military. The mohawkers are usually on motorcycles and wear football shoulder pads and various other sports safety gear for armour. There are also other guys and girls in the group that fall in between with their clothing and vehicles. As far as the Red XA costume, a similar motorcycle helmet painted to match, a pair of motorcycle boots similar to Max's, a pair of leather pants, leather gloves, and cricket shinpads painted black are the easier parts of the outfit. The face mask will need to be fabricated but I think I may have found a similar on for sale on a biker site. The jacket will need to be custom made as well. I suggest buying a black leather jacket that zips staight up the middle and then having the double breasted flap made and attached at a leather or sewing shop. It is like those coats chefs wear or the old police coats in NY in the 30's and 40's It also has to have those little shoulder strap things (epaulets?) like most Brando style biker coats have. We can go further into detail with this in another post. Also look up Karol Bartozsynski in the costume section of the site and send him a letter. Feel free to ask anything else peticular to this subject. I'm all ears........

From the script eh? That is cool. I suppose that "vermin" is taken from the message on the macks original trailer (ending in "earth" on the door), and from Papagallos description of the LH's gang "vermin on machine" etc. I will start looking carefully into the driver of the Red XA, and see what I can come up with.

If you need anything special made I take just about any kind of commission, don't be afraid to ask. I can most likely make it for a good price.

To 'The Punisher' can you put an entire Gayboy Berserka uniform together for me? I'll certainly remunerate you for your trouble. If not any other help would be appreciated cheers!

To 'MFP1' I myself want to put together a replica Landau- mean machine, even stock they're a two door LTD flagship with a the goodies built in them. But the XA certainly gets my approval too!

Again to 'MFP1' Do you want any help in locating any thing for your 'XA' replica project here in Australia- I would be happy to be your inside man- I reckon it would be great fun and I mean I don't work So....go ahead and let me know.

For example it was suggested to me by someone who is also dead keen to put one together over the weekend in Broken Hill that the car in fact was a hybrid in that in had XA headlights, possibly an XB grille and XC (in-set) tailights.

Furthermore I know of a specialist Ford mechanic here in Adelaide that loves working on that type of old car. He has many contacts for parts and even had a 351 XB coupe sitting in his front yard that some one half did up years ago and has since given up on the project.

To 'The Punisher' Look at the close-up during the chase at the start of the film to the upperbody close shot in the car of the berserka. For the mask details etc.

And for the rest of the body look on the film for the scene when the fingers get chopped off a Berserka bangs on the car while laughing- I think he is wearing a strap over balls pouch.

To 'MFP1' I meant to say 'he has' (not 'he had') that coupe in his front yard.

The rust has all been taken out of it- perfect now.

I should buy it for cheap and do it up myself (turn it into an interceptor or something!)

But I prefer the Landau project!

I tried to write you an email but Australia's crappy email system dropped two, if not three, of the emails I sent you. You should have seen the first one, it was a beauty! Anyway, instead of dealing with the length/cutoff fiasco over email, I'll just type it here. Keep in mind that my opinions are from everyday experience and somebody out there is bound to know a better way to make some of this stuff. I looked over the costume from a few scenes, primarily when the berzerker goes down to the Interceptor's crash to kill Max and when one is running to his car when max comes up on them unexpectedly with the rig. I've never seen a jacket exactly like that but with the help of a leather tailor you could take a plain black cafe' racer jacket and add on the double-breasted flap. It appears tro be attached with large silver snaps as opposed to buttons on the right handed side and sewn onto a seam on the left. Finding matching leather would be quite a task. The helmet is pretty common (at least here in the US) I could track one down if you can't find one over there. I live about half an hour from Daytona, Florida where bikeweek is held every year and there are motorcycle shops all over the state to greet the bikers. The paint job is more of a task, if you get a silver helmet you can get a roll of masking tape and a can of black spray paint to finish it off. if you get a black helmet you will most likely have to take it to a custom paint shop to get it right as silver paint will NOT spread evenly over the surface. Their high-quality vehicle paint will work perfect and they won't give it to you with runs. I've got a catalog here with quite a selection. They have a website you can look through (I don't know if they have everything listed in the catalog but it's worth a shot). http://www.jpcycles.com. The shades are pretty common and there's not a single person on the planet who would be able to tell you that " those shades aren't right" as the berzerkers wouldn't all have the same shades anyway. The leather face cover is also common and can be found in that same catalog. They have a couple, one only comes down to the chin and has a slot under the nose and tiny breather holes around the mouth. It's more S&M styled but they have one here that is just a plain leather bandana that is long enough to fit down into the shirt or jacket. The second one is pretty cheap but the first is almost $40 US! This catalog also has different kinds of studs (pointed, domed, and pyramid) in packs of 50 for $8.99. The mask I saw was arranged in a cross over the upper lip. The cricket shin pads can't really be found here in the states but you can run across a few pairs on ebay. I found two, one already in AU, and one in Brittain. Neither pair was exactly like the movie's but if you painted them black not even the original actors could tell. The movie pads had 6-8 horizontal ridges while the ones on ebay had vertical. I couldn't see the boots but I would imagine they were similar to Max's boots in MM 1. They wore plain leather pants without laced side or extra pockets. i don't know how much I can type in these boxes so I'll switch to a new one.
