Silverton: The Pub with no beer !!
Not quite a movie quote but .... "What an interesting philosophy you have"
You were standing in the location where Mel Gibson rested during the filming of Australia's most famous "road/car/action/chase" movie.
A film that immortalized the Australian landscape, the Australian film industry and the Australian Falcon coupe.
In the middle of that geographical location sits the Silverton PUB.
With its location and history on the walls it is almost a shrine.
Mel sat in the beer garden resting in the shade as the legendary Interceptor sat near the Pubs door.
You have described this as "Nothing special".
You obviously have a personal issue with Chris the Pubs current owner. I think that that issue should be solved in another place.
Because when you attack the films locations, and the Silverton Pub, after all the film crews base for the Mundi Mundi scenes.. What ever present day personal and attacking argument you present ... well ... it is over whelmed and collapse's in the face of history.
Silverton is more than the people, and more than a feud.
What ever your issue with the Silverton PUB or Chris, best deal with it face to face personally and privately.
I would think that with anonymous attacks "full of treachery" you will you will struggle to find sympathy in this place.
cheers

Silverton: The Pub with no beer !!
I, like many others went to the Silverton Pub and found it to be excellent, very much part of the Mad Max mythology. The staff I met were friendly and to be honest I didnt notice the price of the beers. I was there to have fun and take in the whole ambience.
I was also there on Sunday as the Police arrived. There was a huge crowd with the car park on both side packed with fans and onlookers. Unfortunately some people got carried away with the event and alcohol induced stupidity took over. Although not an official Back2themax event it would be difficult for the locals to tell, it may have reflected poorly on the calibre of fans attending or perhaps the locals saw it as a bit a harmless fun, who knows.
I never met Chris and have no idea who blower belt or xtra are but all the people I met in Broken Hill were more than accomodating. OK, perhaps the guy charging $5 to see the interceptor wreck was a little over the top, but in a struggling outback town the have to make $$$$ when they can.
The Silverton pub and people have a lot to offer Mad Max fans. I think the animosity towards the pub was caused by the comments made by xtra and the apparant hijacking of the official back2themax event by blower belt on this message board. Every fans has the right to make the pilgrimage, organise a group or make an event but when it appears to be a the last minte riding off the coat tails of soemone elses hard work it creates bad feelings. Especially when the lure of the alighty $$$ is the goal, not the fulfilment of a dream and for the benefit of others.
So many people, myself included, have talked about organising a reunion or fans trip but Scott actually DID IT. Hopefully the next one willbe even bigger with everyone working together. I know I went on a bit and these are just my views, and I dont have all the facts, but I wanted to have my say and I welcome any feedback. I dont care if its personal, it is normal for people who care about something to have strong opinions and thats what makes the world interesting.....imagine if we all agreed all the time....
In the end the weekend was a great success and I am sure the town appreciatated the injection of money and we were not too intrusive.

The 'Silverton Pub' is a totally legendary place, and for a person thats been to Europe, Asia, America and the Middle East that's saying somthing!!...When you get there you feel like you've been transported to some strange planet, but its also a location that is totally Australian and like nothing else on the planet, it's unreal! It's even wilder when you drive out a bit to the barren expanse that is the outback...I mean the place is totally 'iconic', how many truly great Aussie films have been made there (actually only 1, LOL)?!! But that doesn't mean more classics can be made out there, its just all the bloody poonces making all these boring and stupid PC movies that only appeal to there f**kwit friends and no-one else in Australia!
Cheers

Gordon I did infact love the locations of the silverton area as they are a part of the max mytholgy, but I was dissapointed at the greed that went on at the fans and other events expence.I didn't intentionally mean to attack any individual and was probaly a bit judgemental due to some comments made back to me by blower belt etc.The broken hill community and lovers of these films should not be tarnished by the greed for a quick buck. We need these events so the tradition of these awesome films lives forever in the hearts of those who made them, live in the area and all those watch and enjoy them time after time.

How about everybody pull their heads in for a minute? It's been and gone, let's get on with life! We're all into the same thing - and that DOESN'T mean we all have to agree on everything... but c'mon guys.. give it a rest! All this crap is just getting a bit ridiculous.
....and in case you're wondering - I'm not taking sides with anybody.. I'd just rather look back at this weekend with fond memories. Shouldn't we all??

Hi I agree with Wrinkles.. the issues are complex it seems.
And they are for another time/place.
Miss-understanding is so easy in this forum/internet communication. And we are on the same team after all.

Speaking for myself, ( and those of us in the rest of the world outside OZ ) who had no chance at all to be there, and would have given their teeth to do so, I'm amazed and saddened that anyone had anything negetive to say about the event. Count yourselves the luckiest fans alive. And be happy with the memories you have, good or bad.
Back from the dead!
Silverton: The Pub with no beer !!
Just got the 520km back to Adelaide, its Thursday night, 8.30pm
Last night spent two and a half hours at the Silverton Hotel speaking to Chris, face to face, as we all should have, Yes unfortunatly I did miss the fantastic weekend that you guys had and that is something that I regret.
Chris is one of the nicest guys I've met ( Mohawk and all ) who also happens to be a hugh Max fan, his knowledge about the events of the movie, his involvement of the movie, The way he met Mel and just being a local who was there during those times makes him someone worth taking the time to get to know.
Other Movies filmed there, A Town Called Alice, Razorback and the latest relise, Dirty Deeds. On the back wall of the pub, letters of thanks to both Jo and Chris thanking them for the effort they put in during the filming of Dirty Deeds. The photos on the wall, the place where Mel and the crew sat next to the fire place playing cards and the fantastic setting of the pub and the Mundi Mundi Planes, make it a place to be seen by all fans of all movies.
To Chris, someone that I met for the first time and someone who has never written or replied to any posts on this board, thankyou for your generosity last night, I will be back again and more importantly will not miss the next reunion.
Best Regards
Brad
