I was driving the Big Bopper through Newtown today. Stopped at some traffic light, and a guy walks in front of my car and smiles. We both look at each other. Nothing really new there when you drive a mad max car, everyone stares at you. The kicker was that as he crossed the road, I realised he was the spitting image of Paul Johnstone (Cundalini) . By the time I realised, he'd disappeared into the crowd and the lights changed so I had to putter on.
Does anyone know if Paul Johnstone lives in Newtown?

Re: Cundalini
I don't know where he lives but I have a link to a recent video of him. It's the reunion video from 2010.

Yeah, i was at the reunion. He signed my dash. I was just surprised to see him (if it was him) when I was randomly driving the Bopper.
PS> The bopper will be on display for Camp Quality in the foyer at Motorex (Sydney Olympic park) in two weeks if anyone wants to drop by and say hi.

You wouldn't know the car now
When I got it, the doors had rusted out, as had the front guards and rear quarters. The rear valance was both rusted and torn (yep, the metal was torn). The velor seats were rotted and torn, and the carpet was...well, I think it was carpet once. I had the car stripped, panels replaced, spray job, a new old interior fitted. New electrical system throughout, new suspension on the front and rear, lifting it about 2 inches, reglassed front airdam (the original was cracked through in many places and had chunks missing), new streering box, new exhausts, new powersteering unit.
Had a few more signatures on the dash like Steve Bisley, Lulu (nighriders girl), Grant Page, Joanne Samuel, and Kim (the girl in the Chevy)
oh, and then I dropped a 351 in it. Then had to get it re-engineered and certified.
Yeah, I've been busy.
As a friend said, it would have been cheaper to buy another car and repaint it.....

@ comment at the first pictures: There is indeed just a little rust around the big holes
I hope you get her fixed up soon. Looking great so far.
That is one hell of a job.

"UNDERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" is how far you take the fence with you.

Re: Cundalini
Thanks Daz,
For the updates on your car. Shame to hear about the rust issues but It would have been worth doing regardless due to the history behind the car.
Ive got alot of the build photos of the car when we did it, and shots of Hugh with his axe with it when we first showed him the car after it was sprayed.
We originally bought the base car from on older lady who had owned it since it was knew and she only sold it as it was hard for her the steer (No Power Steering).
Ive got to admit it was the best car Ive driven around as it puts so many smiles on peoples faces, nothing beats a truck driver on the F3 Slowing down and yelling "Im The Nightrider" hahahhahaha. Or the local highway patrol boys pulling alongside and saying "Were still in the game ok". All classic memories.
Talk soon.
Cheers
