I always liked the phrase "re-imagining" instead of "remake"---all that means is probably everything you liked about the original (what ever movie it is) is now replaced with a chick who does karate and a hip-hop soundtrack.

As I have said, the film is not a remake nor a re-imagining. They are two completely different films. Just because a film has influenced another film doesn't make it a remake. Red State is a religious horror film and Race With The Devil is car chase horror film.
I'm just as furious and fed with all the remakes as any film buff, but this does not qualify. Kevin Smith is a great filmmaker and I don't think he would remake one of his favorite films.
Also, just to point out, I'm not trying to start a confrontation but merely giving my input to the discussion. I've had discussions like this before online and they haven't gone well.

G,day , there's a new cartoony movie called rango where they are chasing the buggy that is suppose to have water in it and the buggy rolls over and they all walk over to see that it's EMPTY ! There's a couple of scenes that are like different movies as they are on the backs of bats and dive down into the canyon like in star wars , it's a funny movie but i'm not sure it's really for kids as some of the terms of words are adult humour .
I survived the overnighter days .
