Re: Got my Blu-ray today!
Great pics of the Mad Max Blu-Ray MFP! Although I normally don't buy Blu-Ray Discs (especially of older movies before the 90's) I might grab this one. I did Netflix the MM2 Blu-Ray over the summer, I didn't pay attention to the picture but I really dug the Miller commentary.
Anytime new Mad Max stuff get's released just makes me salivate even more for the new movies, can't wait!

I bought my copy last week (here in canada) and it also comes with the DVD special edition. The picture does seem a bit darker but that was fixed with color adjustments. Clarity is a bit better too....nothing new compared to what I was able to get from the DVD though through zoom and a friend with some kick ass enhancing tools.
The best part was that, whoever did the pricing marked it as the Mad Max 2 blue-ray which is on sale for $9.99

Re: Got my Blu-ray today!
So I watched the Blu-Ray version last night! It was dark until we shut all the lights off in the room and then it looked just right. The yellow on the police cars really popped! Most of the film was cleaned up and clear but there were still a few quick shots where the film was really grainy and looked old.
One thing I noticed is that I looked for the hand that was holding the chain that was attached to cundalini's hand when Jessie finds it and I didn't see the hand. Maybe they cut the frame down and cropped it out? I watched it at a friend's house so I can't go back and check right away.
I also noticed the Toecutter's bike's paint (the upper fairing) was gloss black and shiny around the time Bubba gets shot. I guess I always thought of it as dull or satin.
What else... Jim Goose, when he gets in the swamp rat vehicle, seems to put the shoulder belt or harness only over his left arm and not up over the shoulder before he leaves. Funny to think of him putting on any kind of belt in that vehicle after we just saw him doing 120 mph on a bike.
Also noticed when Goose rolled that vehicle, it landed on it's roof. I wonder if they had to do this shot more than once. It seems like it would be difficult to make a vehicle end up on its roof after rolling.
Noticed the impala wreck has a different rim on it, on the left rear, when we see it at the police hq. It looks like just a standard steel rim in that shot, not the chrome 8-spoke.

Re: Got my Blu-ray today!
I was going suggest the improper masking of the top and bottom of the film frame as the reason for the visible hand on some DVDs, but then Mad Max was shot in the anamorphic format, so I don't really know how, or even if masking is used with that particular technique.PursuitSpecial wrote:One thing I noticed is that I looked for the hand that was holding the chain that was attached to cundalini's hand when Jessie finds it and I didn't see the hand. Here's a little background on the anamorphic format.

Re: Got my Blu-ray today!
So what's the final verdict on the picture quality?
Websites are awarding it as being a solid effort, since this movie is very low budgeted to begin it.
How much dirt on the print, speckles and color issues????
I think MGM did some restoration... it's just the movie being too low-budgeted, filmed on cheap film stock.
What about an Australian BD anyway?

I've got a Playstation 3, I hear that plays Blue Rays. If I can get my kids away from it.

Re: Got my Blu-ray today!
My copy of the blu-ray arrived here in Australia last week, for anyone who is interested in what the quality of the picture looks like, here is a screen shot on my setup here:

Yep, that's right, Region coded as expected, and therefore won't play outside Region A. Hopefully there will be a UK or Australian release sometime in the near future, and I will just grab that instead. For the rest of you, don't waste your money if you're not in the correct region...

Re: Got my Blu-ray today!

Not a good result, I think i would have pitched it through the window
