Southbeach vs abbyshot jacket

Post by Daz »

Hi all,
with the pacific paseo reaching parity with the Amero, now is a good time for me to get a good looking costume.
Whilst the Abbyshot might be more accurate, at almost 4 times the cost, I think I'll go for Southbeach Jacket and pants, which is less than half of Abby.

AFAIK the southbeach jacket uses leather shoulder pads. Does anyone one here sell replacement plastic ones to retrofit?

Can anyone give me a good reason why not to get the Southbeach?

thanks in advance...

PS..does anyone know the name of Gooses helmet and what the mouth guard is called (I'm looking on ebay for one)

I know I saw a thread on here from a while back where a guy was making a fibreglass replica of the mouth guard. I'm pretty sure the brand/model of helmet and mouth guard was discussed. I couldn't spot it on the first page of a search, but I'm sure you could find it if you search for 'Goose Helmet' or something similar.
Being from never-never land myself, I am also keen on getting a jacket while our dollar is so strong.

If you do a search on here for the Abbyshot and Southbeach jackets I think you'll find that they've been discussed before.
I know of at least one person who was able to get Abbyshot to sell him the plastic shouldercaps they make so that he could upgrade his Southbeach jacket. I personally cut some custom plastic shoulder caps out of a baseball helmet.
The Abbyshot jacket is a much higher quality leather and a higher quality jacket all around. It's also lined inside for the cold. Good if you come from a cold weather place, bad if you live in the heat. The Abbyshot jacket is one you might consider wearing on a motorcycle for safety, the SB is not.
The upside to the SB jacket is that it has a tapered cut to it - The Abbyshot flares out incorrectly, which is good if you have a gut, but if you've got big shoulders and a small waist it will make you look fat (and more importantly, the cut just isn't screen accurate). And the SB is cut a bit higher, showing just a hint of the belt, like Max's does (the Abbyshot is incorrect in that it usually hangs a bit too low).

Neither jacket is perfect.

For the pants, if you want screen accuracy, make sure you specify to SB that you want NO POCKETS AT ALL. The pants Max wore in MM2 had front pockets, but no back pockets. The MM1 pants he wore had no pockets whatsoever.
