Hi There,
When we built the Big Bopper Replica for the 25th Anniversary Mad Max Charity Auction , the paint we used was:
Torana Chrome Yellow
Ford Monza Red
Nissan Blue.
That was the paint colours we found that suited after alot of research, the names of the paint were also colours that were released during the late 1970's. The yellow we changed a bit as it seemed too orange. Check out the car now which is owned by the forum member on here called DAZ.
Hey Rossco,
The car has just gone in for some rust repairs/new engine/suspension/exhaust and interior, and I've been trying to match the colours for some time. I contacted the panel beaters (Arizona Smash Repairs in Charmhaven) that did the original spray job and they said they used 'Ford Yellow Blaze' ? Blaze seems too bright yellow for a match (If I was doing a full respray, I'd use Blaze)
Are you sure those were the colours (especially the yellow, as that's being a bitch to match)?
Watch the blu-ray version and the yellow looks a lot brighter than what I was used to seeing with the VHS and regular DVD versions.
I know with Dirty Mary Crazy Larry they had the Charger painted Citron Yella which is an astonishingly bright yellow/green color in real life, almost hard to even look at. But on film and in pictures a lot of times it looks like a banana yellow. In the movie they do call it "green" though. It's just a hard color to photograph.
That movie was shot in 1973 or around there.
