Beginning My Filming Career

Yeah, I haven't been here in ages. Looks like things are friendlier though, and that is certainly more inviting.

In the meantime I've been getting a little more work done on my BoB as life is still too hectic to just stay on it. I've been making progress videos for a year and they are on Youtube. They get a bit of traffic and plenty of people have subscribed without any prodding from me, so I guess they like them.

But the major thing that I have been working on is starting a filmmaking career. I've written a screenplay based on another story of the BoB Interceptor. I would like to sell it but I could end up making it if it's not sold before my car is done. Besides this, I made two entries for commercial contests. I have another car themed screenplay in rewrite.

Currently I am making a short film titled Musclin'. It's an old school muscle car film with a real story. I started out just wanting to write a car movie but a cool looking car film without a real story falls on it's face real quick, so I came up with a reason the cars need to be driven fast, and it keeps you watching too. The ending has a "Holy crap!" irony to it.

I was shooting some footage last month. As a result there is an article in a local newspaper about the event. I've created a website where people can follow the making of my film as well as a couple other projects I have in the works. The site is not yet all it's going to be but there is stuff to see and learn about, and I also have some update things there. People that sign up will be able to see exclusive behind the scenes videos, update videos, and more. Membership is free and your info NEVER goes anywhere else. I just use your email address to send a monthly newsletter and to let you know if the finished film will be screening at a film festival in your area. Your membership helps support Independent Filmmaking just by showing interest.

Oh, incase you are thinking "Why doesn't he send the Bob Interceptor script to George Miller?", well, I already pitched it to his "people" and I was told they are not interested in any more Interceptor movies, nor do they accept insolicited scripts.

i'm not surprised they wont accept unsolicited scripts, i'm sure they get'd get thousands otherwise. i'm sure the studios send them scripts all the time. Your best bet is to go has you have, make them yourself as an independant. The worst you could get is a 'cease and desist' letter if you step on someone's toes.

nice looking car in the poster... monte carlo? Will you be distributing this film? i have no qualms supporting independant film-makers, having supported the Backyard guys and a few other fanfilm directors.

Yes, a 1971 Monte Carlo SS454. The owner is a friend of mine and it is a wonderful car. Been in his family a long time too.

I am actually hoping this short film gets someone's attention and they ask me "What else do you have?" at which time I will have 2 screeplays ready, including the BoB themed one.

As far as legalities go, there is no trademark that I have been able to find for the BoB Interceptor. Looking at the packaging on the AutoArt and DDA die cast models of the car there is no acknowledgement of any trademark or licensing. The only reference is to the owner of the rights to the movie, Warner Brothers, and that is only when mentioning the title "Mad Max", which all mention I excluded from my copyright on the script.

I am going to be entering this film in film festivals. Members of my site will get an email if/when it is showing at a festival in their area. After I do the festival circuit it will be available for viewing on my website as a webisode series for the members.

If you like the poster there is going to be a video TONIGHT in the Memebers Area showing how it was created. That's what I am going to work on when I get done here. The video is done, I just need to upload everything.

the movie is a 'published work' so it automatically gets copyright, and the autoart stuff is licensed (and approved by warners). if i were you i would not actually mention mad or max in the same sentence, just to cover yourself. If it infringes, even in the slightest, no legit movie company will touch it.

I am being careful with that. I don't label anything about my screenplay as Mad Max. It is mentioned just the same as Star Wars is mentioned in movies as something that is part of society or mentioned in passing, but making no claim to the title, story, or rights.

Yes, there is plenty to be aware of and careful about. So far I have not found an issue. I am still watching and looking into it to be sure I do not miss anything. My story is not even Mad Max related, other than to mention that the legend of the car in my story was used as a basis for the car in Mad Max.

One day I will be passing my screenplay by an Entertainment Attorney.


I've got the video up showing the creative process for the poster. I'll also be interviewing my Associate Producer, who will also be doing the musical scoring, and the two lead actors.
