Review of the Evel Knievel Classic Motorcycle Jacket

For the holes:
I've used one of those vinyl/leather patching kits that you buy on eBay or in the auto supply store. The kind where you mix the goop, let it dry and then use a soldering iron-type thing to heat cure it and put a texture on it. It works okay but I had to try several times to get it right.

The snaps to hold the sam browne shoulder strap in place is not a bad idea. The first time I wore mine it kept slipping off of my shoulder. I now have a hidden snap-down flap under where my collar is. I'll post pictures of it at some point.

For the weathering, I had some good luck with a rub down with an alcohol-soaked rag to take the shine off, and then some light swirling with a smooth sandpaper (like 300 or higher) to give it more of a greyish look. Just stay away from any of the stitching or the sandpaper will destroy the threads and things will start to come apart. Then I hit it with dirt in a lot of places (the texture of the leather, especially after sanding, grabs onto the fullers earth pretty well).

Well the jacket is pretty much finished:







I plugged the holes from the old snaps with leather from the cut-off sleeve crazy glued in. For the weathering I just used acrylic paints. I went a little easier with the paint this time around. Overall, I'm happy with the jacket. It's an improvement over my last one. In a few weeks I'll have pictures of my whole costume 'in action'!

By the way, my old jacket went to a buyer in Australia for $50.00. Not bad...
