For those who aren't of Saxon or UK heritage , a Beadle was the guy who called for the freemen to assemble for village business - Later evolved into the town crier.

Are you referring to the character who announces the combatants in the Thunderdome Arena? The character was Dr. Dealgood, portrayed by Edwin Hodgeman.
