i just don't understand why everyone keeps screaming "we voted in the first BLACK president" i thought it was a DEMOCRAT that was voted in? noone said "we voted in a WHITE guy" when CLINTON was voted in, it was a DEMOCRAT.
I'm the last person in the world ya'd expect to say this, but why the fuck does his race matter? just get on with fucking bidness man.

Amen, Rock. Unfortunately, in the America of 2008, race is still an issue. And the election of the first black President (okay, half-black, but if you saw him on the street, you would say "That's a black guy") is big news. I wish we here in the states would get over things such as race and sex and sexual orientation and whether someone said "Fuck" on the air and whether Janet Jackson's farkin' nipple showed for a microsecond on TV, but for some reason we can't. For being the most advanced, tolerant, open-minded, welcoming nation in the world, we are still very intolerant, close-minded, puritanical, and xenophobic.
No one made a fuss about Clinton being voted in because he was just another White Guy. Until someone paid special attention to his little white guy, that is.

I believe we made a good choice. Maybe the black vote made a difference, but when you look at the electoral map, I don't think it made as big of a difference as that. Obama carried states that hadn't swayed Democratic for decades.
The American people want something new, and another old white man in charge is not it.

Ya got me, Retiredheat--apparently a young black man is not the answer either. Too much money maybe, influencing politics? Or too much politics influencing good intentions? Probably both, money and politics. And numbers, the politicians know the majority of Americans don't pay attention, and just listen to soundbites. As long as the pols say things that sound good to their base, they're in. Look at the Tea Party movement, their heroes are the ones who are going to "shake things up". Let's see how far they get, once they're elected. They'll have to make deals to get things done, and will become part of what they went to Washington to clean up.
