It makes perfect sense to have more than one set of wardrobe items, right? One for Mel, one for his stunt double/stand-in (and/or one for backup). So it's not inconceivable that there were two complete MM2 Max outfits and accoutrements, with some subtle differences owing to the availability of components. Which, of course, would account for costuming variations (and your rapidly developing ulcer). To me it looks like there's one thin, molded (stiff) pad, and one thicker (flexible) leather pad (reminds me of SBL's leather shoulder caps).

I suppose if you wanted to get really crazy, you could mold something out of Kydex and then glue on a thin layer of stitched leather.

What's inside a cricket pad?

I'm thinking that maybe I'll try using stiff heavy gauge leather for the base, the piping for the ridges, and some thin supple leather for the top. Then I'll finish it off with some copper rivits. That's the direction I'm going to go and see what I came up with. I'll post pictures when I'm done 8-)

hi everyone!

i joined these forums a little bit ago but i've been a lurker for here quite some time. i talked a friend of mine into doing max and goose years ago; he was able to make a costume at the time i JUST got financially stable to begin mine. the information floating around here is invaluable. im committed to making a mad max mfp costume, but i've been toying around with the idea of making the leg brace and the kneepad just because it wouldnt be another ghostbuster prop.

so that brings me to this:

since i've been browsing ebay for months for fire brigade belts and hydrant spanners (jesus there's a crap load of different types) i started in on the hinges and was browsing sports pads for the knee pad. but some bug popped into my head and started giving me the idea: "since the leg brace is made from a tail gate hinge...could it be possible that the kneepad is made from some vinyl parts of the interior of the truck?"

so, this is what i've come up with:
Image
or this:

or these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-1971-1972- ... _91wt_1016

or this. which i think is the closest i've gotten so far. look at where the striping meets in the center of the back of the seat:

I think it's "on the way" to potentially figuring out what the hell that kneepad comes from. it may not even be the seats, it could be from the door panels or head rests. The knee pad may not even have come from the TRUCK but possibly even another car used in the road warrior(i havent had a chance to sit down and note that so i may be able to dig further). im completely retarded when it comes to cars so i'm already having shit luck even beginning to describe parts and materials to cars to find better examples of what im looking for.

i hope i helped someone and maybe someone could see where this could be a possibility.
