'Rage' was a game being worked on by iD (makers of the Doom and Quake series led by game-dev John Carmack).. but it turns out Bethesda's parent company (Zenimax, which has a scary list of people on it's Board of Directors btw) bought iD last year; as such, I believe they passed RAGE on towards Bethesda to do what as they will.
Some WiP videos of Rage can be found at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLg3oNC35K0
As you can see, it's definitely a post-apocy feel game title, but as far as game development, it's likely more a competitor for Borderlands (another, but more sci-fi feeling, post-apocy 'feel' title.. worth checking out if you can find it cheap).
Unfortunately I haven't heard anything about RAGE since iD got bought out many months ago.. so I don't know if there's any definite scheduled or if the IP is going to be cannibalized to go into Fallout:Vegas.

And that comment is something you could use in a face to face person to person conversation, but not really in an online forum.
Personally I hope they stay away from a game, and just deliver an awesome movie! After all...mad max or not I don't believe anything could top Fallout 3 and/or Borderlands. The holy grail of gaming has already been attained.
Fallout3 is an abomination when compared to the old ones, generic dialog, lousy performance, awful characters designs and animation. Sure it gets the feel right but even the combat is a mess....so i say get Bethesda out of any Mad Max game....

Re: New Mad Max Game
Obviously your .002 worth there, Doesnt change the fact for me at least Fallout 3 was a kick-ass game in every respect. And it was Bethesda who basically wrote the book on free roaming environments to begin with! Look at the Elder scrolls series, the first Terminator game and the subsequent sequels to it. There were many companies trying to pull off free roaming, but they never really grasped what the term really meant in its entirety...Bethesda did, and they still continue to do so, to a level that no other developer has been able to replicate fully. The game Morrowind for example raised the bar yet again, and won many awards and acclaim for it's sheer size, and the fact it was not simply a game, but basically a world you could be a part of. Linear is a word that is not included in their vocabulary. Sure Rockstar with their GTA series is using the idea to great effect, but they were still in nappies while Bethesda were developing the engines for these immense worlds. So credit where credit is due. You try making a game the size of fallout 3, filling it with every detail imaginable, and dialog that befits real life, and then cram all that on one DVD!
If better can be achieved, it will be Bethesda who delivers!
Oh, and I am sure that the many awards, acclaim etc....that put Fallout3 as the game of the year, and best of the many trade shows including E3, prompting release of add-on's which resulted in record sales across the board, was achieved because it was an abomination? Yeah....I'm sure!

Re: New Mad Max Game
Hello there, yes I have played the older games, and am a huge fan of them, however I must digress that in my personal opinion Fallout 3 is better, I just enjoyed the overall feel of it, as I am a Massive fan of Oblivion. The idea of fallout 3 was to not be the same as the previous versions, but to offer something different, I feel the game pulled it off exceedingly well with the obvious constraints they had. Sure it could have been better in this respect or that, but it's really nit-picking when you consider the enormity of what they actually achieved, i.e; a complete transferral of a 2d game into a living, breathing 3d world, that had to look post apocalyptic, right down to weathered paint on old buildings, and smoldering charred skeletal object remains etc... It was a first for them, and if they were veterans of the fallout franchise, I feel your points could be well considered, but being that this was their first attempt...They did an amazing job! The enclave never looked better! My point is, love it or hate it...it can and will only get better from here on in! For some it is not a perfect or even close to it game, but for others is is just a joy to play! I started playing it with no preconceptions toward the older titles, because I knew it would be different as it was the first time out for this franchise under a new developer.
Cheers.
Cheers.

Re: New Mad Max Game
Fallout 4 will be out 2011, it looks set to top part 3 in every way!
BTW, my favourite game of all time is Gears Of War! No other shooter has come this close to perfection! The camera wobble when running, and the cover feature are unrivalled by any other shooter, no other shooter is as immersive and adrenaline pumping as that one! I still play it solid, and have been for years now! GOW got it bang on in terms of an immersive realistic feel...you actually feel like you are there! Wicked!

The charm of the old fallout games were the dialog , the combat and the non linearity, i think the dialog and the combat is what essentially killed for me...

Re: New Mad Max Game
i would only hope that games like fallout eventualy get into cars and car customization. it's hard to really say that games like fallout owe their success to mad max but at the same time it's very hard to argue that they haven't been influenced by it either. sometimes i feel like these games are just teases and they will never be mad max and it frustrates me cause the only game we've seen with the offical title was on the nes and sorry but it sucked. mixing road warrior with elements of thunderdome wtf?
