Upon further examination, I see that I was completely mistaken about the brass buckle on Max's holster strap. Now that I can view the movie in HD, it's obvious that it's silver or chrome and rectangular, unlike the rounded brass one I got. So I'm off to get another buckle.

Another thing I noticed is that the strap has "border" grooves (and Max wears it with the end of the strap pointing to the outside, vs. to the inside which looks "cleaner" to me). And his garrison belt is plain and has no grooves (which I probably mentioned in the uniform belt thread).

Also, I just looked at my previous picture and you can't even see the holster. :) So here's another. Of course, it's kinda hard to pick out details with black on black.

Glad to see you came to your senses.

I think I've been wearing mine with the strap pointing outside, but I'll have to double check. I hadn't noticed the grooves on the strap. I can easily add those next time I see you. I have a groove tool up at Karol's place. And yes, Max's garrison belt has no grooves. I'm pretty sure I mentioned that in my garrison belt post. The problem is that it's hard to find a garrison belt these days that doesn't have either grooves or stitching along the edges (without paying to have one custom made). Now that I have the tools to do more with leather I'll probably just make one myself. I can make one for you as well. The next trick is to find an accurate skinnier center bar buckle.

And don't forget the wider belt loops on the pants.

It never ends. :)

Yeah, but I draw the line at wearing screen accurate vinyl instead of leather.
I've worn vinyl pants before. Never again.

I hit up Tandy Leather today and got a couple of belt buckles. Unfortunately, the strap that Magnolia made (on close inspection, the edges are nowhere near straight) is between 3/4" and 1", so the smaller 3/4" buckles don't fit. I got some 1" buckles and I'm not happy with either. I think I'll get a 3/4" strap and a smaller buckle, and life will be great.

I drew the line at buying a tool to put the grooves in the strap. O, that way madness lies...

Surprised to hear that your magnolia strap is not straight.

You don't want to buy leather tools that you'll only use once or twice. Karol has a strap cutter, so we can easily make you a straight strap out of a scrap piece of leather. Or possible cut your existing strap down to a straight and even 3/4".
Also, Karol and I have the groove tool so you're welcome to use that too. That stuff is small enough that we could even bring it with us the next time we all get together and take care of it right there on the spot. Frankly I don't think there needs to be more than one groove tool per three people anyway.
We got the better groover after testing the cheap ones and it will take a while before I feel like the money invested will be worth it. The more people that groove with it the better.

And yes, groove tool is the name of my new retro funk band.

I got my holster in the mail:

They left the belt loop and thigh strap unfinished so I can make them exactly how I like them. What do you think?

Was this supposed to be an MM1 or MM2 holster? Because as I said, it looks like a strange combination of both (it has the shape and single strap of MM1, but the rivets of MM2.
Does it fit your Hudson gun?

Here is what the Magnolia Leather version of the MM1 holster looks like again for comparison:

Wotcha guys, I am glad I have finally found you all, I have been looking for ages for a thread like this somewhere.
I am after a sawn off shotgun leg holster like the ones seen on this thread, but I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to signpost me to a maker of these holsters with a leg strap, I notice Magnolia leather works on Etsy got a couple of mentions but it would appear Sam is taking a break, so can anyone suggest someone else?

My apologies for a probably very stupid question but I have been looking around for ages.

Thank you for your time.
