Since it's based on the Ford Taurus, it is a FWD V6 car, but AWD and twin turbos are optional.

The Taurus PI is twice as rigid as the body-on-frame Crown Vic it replaces. How rigid is the Falcon?

The Taurus PI is certified to safely withstand a 75 MPH rear impact. Can the Falcon withstand that?

I have also heard that the location of the B-pillar on the Falcon makes it difficult for officers to get in and out of the car with all the stuff they wear on their utility belt.

If not built here (US), how much would a Falcon PI cost if imported, and would it be beefed up to US police spec's in Oz or here? How much effect would that have on total price to purchase?

Ford may also be using GM's importing of the Statesman as an opportunity to do some flag waving with the "American designed and built" issue.



Me, personally, I was rooting for a Falcon police car. I want the Falcon in the US. I was let down when I heard it wasn't going to be the Falcon. However, I think the Taurus PI is a suitable replacement after having read all the details. The only hanging point seems to be a RWD preference, which has also always been the norm. Ford's Stability Control has been recalibrated in the PI to the liking of the Police Advisory Board members that tested the vehicle to provide the vehicle handling that was requested.

I guess we gotta ask some officers after they have used one on the beat.

Given that the Taurus cop car is available with AWD, the FWD vs. RWD issue becomes kind of moot. My biggest complaint about the damned thing is that it weighs about a thousand pounds more than it ought to. Of course, if you're using your car to "spin and pin" fleeing suspect vehicles, all that extra weight might not be such a liability.

The clitaurus is still a gay fwd shitbox! My brother said his agency will use the last of the Crown Vics till the bitter end then they may consider the Charger because Fl. had a nitemare issue with the Taurus's before and most were at auction not even 2 years after they got them.

But the new Taurus is a completely different car from the old one. The only thing they have in common is their name. Not that I care, really. The Taurus hasn't excited me since the days of the first and second generation SHO, and that was a long time ago.

The sho was last pwd by a Yamaha engine. the Taurus is a car I always hated with the exception of The Robocop one cuz they dubbed in V8 sounds and it looked tough.
