Cost of AFO leg brace?

LOL, that's where I draw the line for "movie accurate"

I had to modify the leg brace since it was too small. I cut the bottom and made it wider, added a piece of aluminum to keep it the stirup style. Then I replaced to aluminum at the top of the brace as that was too short as well, as luck would have it Max's leather pad on the brace does not overlap in the movie so I'm good there. I painted the outer part of the pad with special paint I bought at the automotive store made specificly for vinyl since I realized the outside was not leather only the inside. It says it doesn't crack and will dry without staying sticky like regular enamel sometimes does on vinyl. Now I need to attach the tailgate hinges and viola.

Do you have any trouble with the leather pulling away from the back of the top metal part (the "shin band" I guess I'll call it since it goes across the front of the shin)?

Mine started coming off a bit since it was partially being held on by the sewed on layer of leather that I removed to expose the metal shin band. I fixed it with some contact cement (Barge brand) but I may have to fix it again in the future if that doesn't hold.

Use E6000 glue and clamp it in place while it dries. After a couple of days when the glue is fully dried it won't go anywhere, that's what I used. The glue dries clear, waterproof, and flexable. E6000 is truly amazing stuff, you can find it at places like Joann Fabric, Hobbie Lobby, Michael's, and sometimes Walmart and cost about $3.00 for a tube. All the guys in the 501st swear by it.
