Re: MM2/Road Warrior SHOULDER PLATE Inquiry
Sounds good! I'll attach a few photos from last Halloween. I made the whole MM2 outfit last year, not all movie accurate, but there's some thing I'd like to get close to (the plate is # 1). Have a look... Yeah, I got one of the Southbeach jackets and wear it on a routine basis (gets cold in Seattle!) I don't want to cut it up, so I used a different jacket for MM2 (not movie accurate) My personal email addy is [email protected]. Let's keep in touch! Thanks man! - Patrick

Okay...now I think I'm going to take apart the shoulder pads and redo my plate. I have no plans on using the rest of it, so let me know if you're interested. I may put the rest on eBay, but if you have any ideas, please let me know. It would be nice to recoup some of the money I paid for this
Here's a pic of the pads I took this morning...

Yeah I saw those they were $250! I don't think $125 is too bad, alittle high, but not a ripoff IMO. They were actually used by Notre Dame if I'm not mistaken. I'm sure there's a die-hard Notre Dame fan out there who will actually get chest pains as you dismember that piece of college football history LOL

I know, right! I'm almost in favor of preserving it just as it is. I don't know...I want to dismantle, but....ahhhhkkk!

Nice costume above. You've already got some of the components that people often leave out. Like the dog too.miriyanlarz wrote:Okay...now I think I'm going to take apart the shoulder pads and redo my plate. I have no plans on using the rest of it, so let me know if you're interested. My first easy suggestion for the costume would be to upgrade your sam browne belt. You can get accurate ones very cheap these days (I think I posted a link sometime last year).
Two sugestions for the shoulder plate - If you remove just the plate and nothing else, you could try to sell to someone who wants to make a Wez costume (since Wez is missing the plate on that side). They're not exactly the right shoulderpads for Wez, but at least they're vintage Rawlings.
But if you need the padding from the right hand side then I don't think anyone will want what's left over since they can't be used for a Wez outfit that way. But what you could try to do is take out the underpadding from both sides. Why? Because the underpadding from the left side, if it's in good shape, can be flipped upside down, bent the other way and sold to someone as padding for the RIGHT side (with full disclosure of what they're getting of course. There are a lot of people out there that have plates but no good underpadding, so maybe you'd make a few bucks back that way.
Good luck.

I'm sure there are plenty of USC and UCLA fans that will pay to watch you dismantle them.miriyanlarz wrote:I know, right! I'm almost in favor of preserving it just as it is. I don't know...I want to dismantle, but....ahhhhkkk!

jwrites...I don't know what you r name is or who you are (I just know Karol by name only) but you rock! Thanks for the suggestions, feedback, and the humor comments
I may just leave the pads as they are...it is a rather nice piece of football memorabilia. Will be in touch brother!

Re: MM2/Road Warrior SHOULDER PLATE Inquiry
Hey Patrick!
Quite a thread for a day. The plate you have there looks pretty darn close. As jwrites mentioned, the 2 rivets are wrong. These football pads look like possibly some early versions of Crusaders. The plate may or may not be the exact same in shape, etc - but it is so close it's hard to tell. And I have an eye for these things.
As far as the remainder of the pads, I might be interested in the other plate (I recently acquired a pair of Wez pads with wrong plates) but not sure what I could pay for them at this moment.
Jwrites is correct about the Sam Browne belt - I see so many guys with home-made belts. Sportmansguide is out of stock, but you can get a real Aussie one for about $50 plus shipping here. (Buy the brown one and dye it black).
BTW, jwrites is a friend of mine. We met through my costuming website and we have been working together on all sorts of Mad Max projects mostly involving Max's Road Warrior costume.

Hey Karol...it's good to hear from you! Yeah, I was on a role yesterday, started while I was at work and went through the day. I got some great feedback -- thanks! I'm still not sure what to do with these pads yet, but I'll let you know. I'll look for the belt -- that would be a good improvement. For now, I'm getting ready to move back to CA and will be offline for awhile pretty soon. Take care man and I hope life is treating you well!

Just a quick note about the same browne belt - you may want to call the sportsmansguide folks and ask them when they'll have more in stock (and whether this is just a temporary out of stock situation, or one of those "it ain't never coming back" situations). That way you'll know if you should just wait for the cheap one that ships from the U.S. or have to save up a little extra for the Aussie one.
P.S. my name's Jared but I don't use it much online (and never use my last name). I like to keep my online identity and my true identity separate unless it relates to my business stuff (so that google searches on me result in business-related hits and not hobby related ones).
