Yep. If one isn't satisfied with the free OCR software that was included with one's scanner, I'm sure there are numerous alternatives downloadable from tucows.net.

Other then tearing the books apart to scan, has anyone used one of those text scanning pens that are about $100.00?I have some very old genealogy books that I would like to scan, but don't want to tear them apart either.BTW,I got all three paperbacks of the movies off Evilbay last year for about $20.00 US including shipping.I read all three books and have to hand it to Miller to make such a memorable movie out of the first book.I read a lot of scifi/fantasy,historic war novels and have to say that the first book was SO bad that it was all I could do to force myself to finish reading the damned thing.Cheers,Bill

Um, the book was based on the movie, not the other way around.

The book was based off the script - I think they all were. Problem is, the scripts got altered during the filming - quite heavily in the case of the first Mad Max. By the time they shot it, a lot of scenes were rewritten, and a lot were just plain cut, either because they didn't work, or for budget reasons. On top of that, the film was then HEAVILY edited to produce the final version, again, cutting out stuff that either didn't work, or trimming down heavily. So the book is interesting, because it gives an insight into a lot of the original intent in the story, and how it was altered into the finished product. Just don't expect it to be quite as exciting as the finished film. Sorry Bill :) (I've never forced myself to read the whole novel!)

I hate to admit it because it was a chore even the first time..... ..... but i have read all three novels more than once (the repeat pass through BTD was the biggest chore). I know you are gagging right now Bill....... but to be clear it was really the parts left out (particularly the Armilite Gangs, Transcon 1, Breaker Squad, Glory Run stuff in the first 2 chapters) that had me "Studying" the first novel, and the backstory & alternate ending (SPOILER WARNING) in the end of the second book with Killing the Humungus for his rolling guzzoline station that had me reading it again going WTF?!?! :o

It was about the information and backstory (I SWEAR  ), sort of like my cool "Star Wars Freak" friend who will buy EVERY SW novel there is (even kids books like "The Glove of Darth Vader") because they all fill in little gaps in the known story.

I actually didn't mind the novelization of Beyond Thunderdome; it was certainly no worse than actually watching the movie.

Hello,

Try Abes books. They have MM1 and MM2 listed for various prices. I do not know off hand the website URL, but do a google search for "abes books" and it will come up. ;-)

Thanks!

Well I'm now reading Mad Max. I'm only a little way into the book right now. Currently at the part where the Toecutter and friends are picking up Nightrider's body at the train station.

So far, there are some very interesting differences from the movie. Here are a few details which I found odd or interesting:

* Mad Max is swimming naked in a lake when he first gets word via radio that the Nightrider is on a "Big Run" and heading his way.

* Max is already driving a black interceptor.

* Nightrider is described as being nineteen years old, and his girlfriend fifteen. The actors who portrays them in the movie certainly look a lot older than that.

* March Hare report that they've been chasing Nightrider for eight hours!

* Big Boppa crashing through the caravan, Charlie sustaining a throat injury, and Goose crashing his bike are scenes which do not appear in the book.

* When Fifi and the mechanic present Max with his new, special interceptor, the mechanic describes it as being turbocharged, not supercharged. Also, he informs Max that it's got almost 400 horsepower, which is kind of funny, considering that today there are many bone-stock cars and trucks with higher HP ratings. Also, this isn't consistent with certain Mad Max trailers which described the interceptor as having 600 HP. Not that movie trailers are always canonical.

Anyway, those are just a few interesting points. I'm sure I'll have more as I continue to read.
