I just ordered mine (site now says 5 available), and to second what J said, act now if you want one soon. Seems like a decent guy and I'm sure we'll all be pleased by our interaction.

FYI, I spoke to the vendor about whether or not to add stitching down both sides. He said he can do this for an extra charge.
However, he thinks (and I agree) that there ISN"T stitching down both sides, what it probably is instead are grooves down the side of the leather. Looking at the screen shots, the rectangle is clearly stitched, whereas the side lines near it don't look the same. That's why we think they're just grooves (the Road Warrior holster is similar, it has areas that are grooved and some that are stitched).
So, the good news is that he can add the grooves for free and will do so with future holsters (but you may want to remind him just to make sure). If you still really want the stitching, you can pay for it, but from the screenshots available, I think the grooves are actually more screen accurate.

Every time I've refreshed it says the site has been sold out since 10/6/09.

I'd advise you to just contact them (I'm sure there's a link on Etsy). He can probably put you on a waiting list or something. If you keep waiting until the site says they're in stock you might be out of luck. I'm just guessing, I don't know how he's doing orders, I just know that if it were me I'd want him to know I want one. Otherwise, he might just fill orders for people that have already contacted him and not actually list any as in stock on the site until he's caught up with those.

Great followup, J. I had requested a silver buckle but changed at the last minute to brass, based on the scene where Max's knee explodes. The buckle looks brass to me, so that's what I asked for. My personal preference is for silver over gold, but these are the sacrifices I make. ;) I think the movie buckle is smaller and more square, but no one complained.

Then again, considering that there were probably three different holsters used in the "rolling on the ground" scene, there's no telling what the "correct" buckle is. So maybe I will go back to silver.

Dude, great pic.

As for buckles, having worked on the boots, holsters, leg brace etc., I can tell you that finding exact correct buckles has been much more difficult than I expected. It seems like everybody orders from the same one or two manufacturers these days. I need to find a place that has a lot of different vintage and odd buckles. Nearly all of the buckles from both my Mad Max costumes are very close, but not perfect and it's frustrating.
I even searched around the garment district in downtown LA with Karol and it was the same story.

Maybe I need to start browsing goodwill, looking at old belts and the small buckles on ladies handbags.

Also - MagnoliaLeatherWorks only seems to stock two types of buckles in that size right now - the brass one he used for yours is more rounded, whereas the silver one he used for mine is more square. Replacing the buckle at some point probably wouldn't be too difficult.

As for whether it was brass or silver in the movie, I think the answer is possibly both, but probably silver. From having looked at MANY screenshots, I'm also increasingly thinking that they had more than one version of the holster that they used.

Well, I ordered a holster from... someone. It was through esty and I'm not sure how they are affiliated with Carol's Country Store or whoever. I'm not sure that I even ordered it from the right people/person, and by the time I talked to jwrites it was too late. Maybe someone could post some info or a link explaining this and clear things up?

Here's what they had to say about my order. Kind of hard to understand, but I think once I get the pieces I can modify them, if they even need it at all.

Sent by carolscountrystore on April 17, 2010:
HOLSTER AND KNIFE CASE ARE DONE. I charged #2.50 on one and 8.00 on the other one and they can ship together.
shoot gun case... I did don"t make the loop for the gun. This you can do and it will fit the way that you want it to fit. I am sending extra rivets so just punch holes and the fit together and take a small hammer and hit them until they are flat. The strap does not have holes in it wrap around you leg and get the size you want punch the holes and cut off the excess and then take a sharpe black and color the end. I also did them in an antique black dye as opposed to the really shinny black. Now some have 2 straps for the leg and some have one... I have one on yours but if you want the second one I will send it and it can be put on ...plenty of rivits to do that... also I am sending a two prong belt buckle as we talked about. This will finish up and you will be ready to go...
thanks will send soon as the paypal comes thru with your address.. one is on alchemy and holster is on the main website I will ship together.

Anyway, they sent me pictures of the completed holster (below). Anyone want to chime in on how accurate/inaccurate it is? When I get it in hand I'll post more pics.

The correct Mad Max 1 shotgun holster is from Magnolia Leather Works. You can google them, or click on the very first link in this thread to go to their Etsy storefront. Etsy.com is a website where various independent artists sell their stuff. Kind of like eBay, except you buy direct instead of bidding.
Okay, I just googled them so here is their site:
http://magnolialeatherworks.com/
But I think if you want to make a purchase it might take you to their Etsly.com storefront anyway.

It looks like you ordered your holster from Carol's Country Store. They also sell things on Etsy and they were a company that I got some Gerber sheaths and spanner pouches from at one point. I never had them make me a holster. Their sheaths and pouches were okay, but not that accurate. I have talked with Magnolia Leather Works about making better sheaths and pouches and that may be happening soon.

The holster you're getting looks like it will need some work in order to be accurate, and it looks like they're leaving it to you to finish it off once you get it. The big question will be whether or not your shotgun fits in it properly. If it does, then at least you might have some leather to work with that is in a reasonably correct shape. But my advice would be to try and sell it on eBay and just buy the correct one from Magnolia (or elsewhere). You're buying this as a MM1 holster right? Because don't you already own the correct MM2 holster from Magnolia?

The holster you posted pictures of looks like a weird combination of the film one and film two holsters.

As an MM1 holster the one you posted is not a very good match because it has rivets down the side instead of stitching. Max's film one holster is not riveted. Riveting leather yourself is pretty easy, but stitching it may not be, unless you've got the skills to do it by hand or the correct machine. That's why I was thinking maybe you could just try to sell this holster to someone else. Or just enjoy it and not worry so much about screen accuracy (if I could follow that advice I'd save myself a lot of money).

Best,
J
