A very good question. The both my actors with speaking lines have Australian accents. And I'm very good friends with a car importer who's been shipping tons of Mustangs over to Australia and selling them without converting them over. So, technically, it is correct either way. Just so happens the Marauder got his hands on a American mustang in Australia. Probably the first thing he stole before going on his murderous rampage, robbing and pillaging.

Now many of you might get your panties in a knot over the 1997 Ford Explorer, left hand drive, that is also in the film. But, during my research, I found that certain American Oil Corporations were using American Explorers for off-road field work, which of course, fits right into the Mad Max theme.
