Food in the MM2/MM3 world

Post by Uncle Entity »

What the hell do they eat?
In MM2, Max kept a storage of Dinky-D Dog food in the Interceptor. But what did the people of the Refinery use to eat...? The Dogs of War?
And when his car blew up, what did Max start to eat anyway...???

The people of Bartertown?

What can you eat in the Australian outback? Animals? How can you hunt them without guns?

I believe the people at the compound had livestock and planted some food. There seemed to be an abundance of rabbits around, something that is also a good food source. I do believe the would have had a big supply of canned foods and the like. But from what was visible in the movie it would not be viable to sustain on limited crops and rabbits for long.

It is a fact that the flesh of any fur-bearing mammal, with the exception of polar bear liver, is edible to humans.

People have starved to death eating nothing but rabbit meat.

Rabbit starvation, also referred to as protein poisoning, is the form of acute malnutrition caused by excess consumption of any lean meat (e.g. rabbit) coupled with a lack of other sources of nutrients usually in combination with other stressors, such as severe cold or dry environment. Symptoms include diarrhea, headache, fatigue, low blood pressure and heart rate, and a vague discomfort and hunger that can only be satisfied by consumption of fat or carbohydrates.

Aboriginies did it successfully for Centuries before white man made it to australia. There's food IF you know where to find it.

There was a scene in MM2 of one of the bikers feeding the two
prisoners some kind of food with a bowl and spoon. Its in the
background when the Humugus first sights Max approaching the
compound in the rig.

Looks like by the time of Bartertown (18 years after the nuclear war) they were
able to create alcoholic drinks again...as seen in the Atomic Cafe scene.

Aunty also had a fruit bowl (that Max put to good use) so some sort of
orchard must have been in use.
Looks like I got me some guzzoline eh....V-8?

"Rabbit starvation" strikes me as defying logic. In any case, why would you eat only rabbit meat? How about a handful of grass for fiber? :)

Re: MM2 food, there were rabbits, pigs and chickens inside the compound. Outside there were stables (burned down by the time we see them) so perhaps they had cows. My understanding is that the Humungus showed up pretty recently; it makes sense that they would have harvested whatever they could from outside the compound.

This is the answer I like the most, and for a reason:

It's beautiful to see that - in the Mad Max sequels - Australians have become the post-modern Aboriginies of the future. Isn't that ironic? One day, cock of the walk... go for it, Aunty.

There was an eight year old girl here in the states who got lost in a national park and survived for more than two weeks. (I'm not sure exactly how long, any help guys?)

She managed to find food enough.

Granted, the Outback would be more difficult than a huge forest.
Knowing what you're doing helps - A Lot - but anyone can find food in the wilds if they keep their brains with them.

Here's a suggestion, watch the special features on the DVD of Cast Away and/or any of the desert set episodes of Survivorman.
