Source for the gloves

Post by rebelgtp »

I just stumbled on this and figured I would post it considering I figured it might help out someone looking for the gloves. They are basically modern versions of the vintage MX gloves like they used in the first movie.

They're not exactly accurate (they're not leather, which might be a big deal to some people) and the color of the black ones looks like it might be a bit off. The pattern of the foam on the back is close but isn't the same.

But I'd say for $18 they're a pretty good find. Too bad Abbyshot doesn't have the replica ones anymore. How much were those though? I don't think they were cheap.

UPDATE -

There are some gloves on eBay right now that are nearly exact. They are leather and look a lot like the discontinued Abbyshot replicas. The only significant difference is a stitching pattern on the palm, but it's pretty minor and hard to see. They're $25.

Do a search for vintage motocross gloves, or vintage enduro gloves
The sellers name is motobiker

Here's a link to a specific auction (I just bought a pair)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HONDA-KA ... 500wt_1592

and a link to the seller's ebay store:
http://stores.ebay.com/MOTOBIKER

(the above info is as of 3/14/2009)

As for the size, here is what the seller had to say when I asked if they came in a medium: "they only come in large and Xlarge. I take a XL but if I put on a large I cant even flex my hand so I think the large should be ok as leather is tighter than normal gloves. If for any reason they are way too big you are always welcome to send back for refund."

I'll attach the picture from the auction.

The quality is fine. They're real leather. I don't know that I'd wear them for riding motocross, but they're fine for a Mad Max costume. I haven't compared them to the Abbyshot gloves. It's possible that the Abbyshot gloves are softer, higher quality leather. They're also a lot more expensive.

The Abbyshot Max gloves are for sale again (I think that has been mentioned here) but they are $50 U.S. so they're twice the price of the eBay ones. Other than the stitching pattern on the palm, and the slight appearance of elastic around the cuff, the only other thing I can see about the eBay gloves that isn't perfect is the raised padded ridge on the thumb (it should only be on the other fingers) - so I'm going to cut mine off of the thumb part. Should be pretty easy.

Even with the Abbyshot gloves now available, I'd still buy these ones for $24 if I had to do it over again.

I ordered a pair from Motobiker last week and I got them today. He ships quick. I like them but like said before i wouldn't use them for motocross.

something that i noticed, the gloves on ebay from motobiker are made like Fifi's. Except the ribbing on the back of the hand is diffrent. Max's gloves look more like plain driving gloves with the ribbing added.
