Replica MM2 Road Warrior SHOTGUN HOLSTER now available!

Post by Max Replica »

UPDATE -
Latest photos of the current production version of this holster (with a couple of my tiny modifications) are up on page 4 of this thread.

-------

Great news everybody:
I have been working with a place called Magnolia Leather Works on a screen accurate leather holster from Mad Max 2 / The Road Warrior. This holster has now been completed and is available for sale to fans. Just to be clear, I'm not involved in this project financially, so I don't get any profit from this. This was simply a custom item that I paid to have made to very strict specifications and I have now convinced the maker to make the item available for sale to the wider fan community.

I am very happy with the way this turned out. First, here is a link to where you can get the holster:

http://magnolialeatherworks.com/Holsters.html
The holster is near the bottom of the page. And more photos of it will be posted their soon if they aren't already. There should be a "purchase now option" that works, but if not, you can use this link: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?li ... d=29798608

And a link to his blog about how it was made:
http://magnolialeatherworks.blogspot.com/

Now let me tell you some more about this holster and then I'll attach a picture.
I spent a lot of time studying all of the shots of Max's holster in the movie in order to give accurate instructions for the manufacture of the holster. Here are a few things that are important and that this holster gets right:
1. The holster is not straight down from the belt. It is canted slightly. This is hard to see in some screenshots, but very clear in others. Many fans get this part wrong.
2. The holster is brown leather that has been dyed black. This is important because some black leather that you buy (especially the cheap stuff) will reveal blue or grey underneath when sanded or otherwise worn down. (That would be bad).
3. There are two leg straps. The top strap is angled, and the bottoms strap is actually brown, not black.
4. The bottom of the holster is open and the gun protrudes from the bottom.
5. There are the correct number of rivets all around, and the spacing of the rivets is correct, including how the bottom two rivets on the left hand side are a bit closer together.
6. The leather thigh straps are attached to the rivets
7. The leather is good quality but still thin enough to have some flexibility.
8. The holster is made to hang off of a standard Sam Browne belt which is about 2 1/4" wide. If you have a different sized belt be sure to specify in your order.
9. The holster comes pre-weathered.

I don't believe anything like this has been offered before. What are you waiting for? Go buy it! And please post here if you buy one, I'd like to know if there is a market out there for more of this kind of stuff. I'm continuing to work with venders to try and provide hard to find items from the movies to the fan community. (There just might be a Mad Max 1 shotgun holster available in the near future as well!)

Here is a photo (more will be posted on the Magnolia Leather Works site soon). In this photo you'll see my plastic shotgun. This was used for measurements since it has the exact same dimensions as the Hudson gun, but this way I didn't have to send my valuable Hudson gun through the mail.

Wow! I was just thinking of re-making my holster, but now I'm thinking about ordering this one. I just have one question: how fast can they get it shipped to me? I absolutely MUST have it in hand by Tuesday August 11th. I contacted them, so I'm guessing that by the time they get my e-mail I need it in less than a week. Sure would be nice to have it for DragonCon...

Humvee,
I think you meant to type Sept. 1st and not August 11th - right?. Anyway, last I heard from him he was thinking about two weeks for orders, but you never know, maybe he can get you yours in time. Let him know you need it for Dragon Con and maybe he could even ship it to your hotel there or something, saving a couple of days (he ships from GA and that's where Dragon Con is so...)

Good luck.

One more for now. I'll post some more when I have my real Hudson gun in it (looks way better than the cheap plastic version) and I'll take some pics of me actually wearing it (maybe).

P.S. I saw on the Magnolia Leather website that they make a custom rig from "Firefly". It's also the one that Steve McQueen used in Wanted Dead Or Alive (made for a chopped off rifle). I've never seen Firefly, but that Western rig looks really really cool. Not that I have a costume to wear it with or anything. Yet.

Ooops, yeah, Sept. 1st. They would be pretty good if they could get it to me by Aug. 11th. I looked up the town where they are from, I might be able to pick it up there. I'm really hoping this will work out...

Does Max have a different style holster in the opening scenes of MM2? In the standoff with Wez at the truck wreck the Holster looks very different and seems to be slung much lower on the hip.

You're exactly right. This was something I discovered while researching this holster (and it has now been added to Karol's website, the definitive www.madmaxcostumes.com )

Max has a holster in the opening scene that hangs much lower and doesn't have the rivets. It's frankly not that nice a holster, just a simple tube. It's possible that it was supposed to look like his holster from the first movie as that was just a simple tube as well, but it does NOT actually appear to BE the film one holster (the drop from the belt is a lot longer and there are two leg straps, not one).

Anyway, as soon as Max meets the Gyrocaptain he has his better riveted holster, and he carries it through the rest of the movie. From a production standpoint, they probably just replaced the holster and assumed that most people wouldn't notice. From a story standpoint, it's altogether possible that sometime between first fighting Wez and meeting the Gyrocaptain, Max scrounged a better holster somewhere and threw the old one away.

What's significant about that first holster though, is that even though it only appears onscreen in the first few minutes of the movie, it's the one that appears in that famous promo shot of him walking with his dog (which appears to have been photographed at the same time as the opening chase sequence).

Humvee,
I just sent you an email about a way for you to get the holster in time for Dragon Con. If for some reason you didn't get the email, please let me know ASAP.

Yes, I got your e-mail. I replied with:

Thanks for helping me out on this. I sent two e-mails to the address he has listed on his site; I guess they didn't go through. But I just paid for it through Paypal, and I explained the situation and when I needed it. I asked him to mail it as fast as possible, with the understanding that I would happily pay for the extra shipping. I gave him my cell number to call if there were any problems. Since you seem to be in touch with him (and I am not), could you ask him if it would be better for me to pick it up in person? Or can I count on getting it in the mail by Sept. 1st? I really appreciate your help here.
Thanks again,
Dave
