Max's Gieger counter

In MMBT Max uses a gieger counter when the guy on the bicycle trying to sell water, approaches Max. Is this a real counter or is it made from other parts?

Good question. This would be a great prop to have for someone doing a MM3 costume (something people rarely do, it would be great to see more of them).

If someone could post a screenshot or two it would save the rest of us time scanning through our dvds...

One we get a screenshot we can do some google image searching and some scientific supply catalog searching to see if it looks like a standard model. If it were a working geiger counter there might even be a way to adjust the sensitivity with a thumb control or something (for example, you could be at a costume party and cause the scanner to click with "excessive radiation" when you pass it over the beer someone offers you).

Here's a capture of the counter. I did a search last night and didn't see anything like it. Most Geiger counters are boxy. Who knows - it may just be a kit-bashed invention of the prop department.

Some characteristics to note:
-handle is on the right-hand side
-rectangular or square gauge; may swivel
-funnel-shaped body
-detection tube is attached to the lower front end

It looks like and ordinary automotive distributor body! with some "extra" pieces attached to it.

The pokey-out-bit at the bottom looks like a standard gieger counter detachable probe.. (they look alot like pencil microphones). The gauge/display could either be from an actual Geiger/civil-defense meter or even just a standard VU meter from anything.. cheap substitute might be an old multi-meter.

For reference, here's a pic of my old 60s-70s era US 'Civil Defense Meter'.. which are a bit different then Gieger Counters, but close enough for reference probably:

The cylinder part is, iirc, an ion chamber that the radioactive particles actually enters to be measured.. If you cut it to only include the Ion Chamber and the guage, you're half way to a somewhat similar appearance to what Max is using .. just move the circuit board around (somewhere, remove it?)



For reference,a Geiger counter probe, which you can make out a tube/cable that comes off the probe on Max's counter.

Man I really hate being that guy that bumps really old threads but I've spent the better part of this morning on ebay looking at distributors, does anyone have any idea what car it comes from? max_rockatansky is on to something.

The closest ive found is a 66-67 Mustang. I think the cap has to be removed (if that's even possible). Anyway of course im looking at anything pre85 (because mmbt comes out then).

looks like a Bosch dizzy from a falcon. Could be from any car really, as they are all pretty similar until you try and match the threads to the cam.

I bought the bluray set last weekend JUST so I can get a better look at this sucker. I'll compare it with the Bosch distributor and let you know!
