The one thing the standard DVD has going for it is it is not pan/scan. It is though one of the original release DVDs and it is slightly cropped (it is over widescreened). The image is grainy, soft, and with video artifacts and noise. Could it be better? Yes MUCH BETTER! Could it be worse? Absolutely, much worse (watch also the early WB DVD release of "Outland" that one is AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL!).
I do not own Blu-Ray, BUT i can say to be able to buy TRW in a glorified form with the original Mad Max2 title in place would be my first purchase with that format. It dumbfounds me that this movie has not recieved a SE treatment on regular DVD (every other title gets the SE treatment). Oh well, i guess that is up to George Miller, his movie, he owns it, WB is just the distributor of it. Now if Ridley Scott would have made it, we would have the multi 3-4 disc version with every version imaginable (ie Blade Runner).

It's not nearly as detailed as I'd hoped (I'm pretty sure Miller and Semler just sat down and watched the movie for the first time in years), but it's worth a listen.
Ive had Mad Max 2 on blu ray for about 5 months now,i think its great for noticing minor details but the one that stuck out for me was when dog jumps in the back when Max switsches off the blower, you can see The Interceptors blue police light in the back beside dogs bed.had never noticed it in over 25 years of watching it on dvd or vhs....betamax too for that matter
I noticed a few new things as well given the amazing quality. First of all, when the defiant victim starts crying out I noticed that the driver of the red Xa quickly leans over the person tied to the windshield of the car. Although it is slightly cut off, it seems as if he is covering the mouth of the victim to prevent her from interrupting humungus' speech like the defiant victim. The night scene was also much, much clearer even though many people on the blu-ray website say it could be improved. I also noticed that the man killed by the Gyrocaptain's snake has green dyed hair ( i always thought he had a mask like any other smegma crazy). I actually haven't listened to the commentary track yet because I still can't get over the superb quality of the film.

Does anyone still have this, anywhere? I'd love to hear it, but I don't want to go out and buy a Blu-Ray player, and copy of this, just for that purpose.
I started a thread on 'THE ROAD WARRIOR' on the Blu-Ray.com forum many moons ago... and everyone (they are all BD buffs and experts) agreed the BD release is excellent, impressive and superb in terms of picture quality.
I have to admit that I loved the Blu-Ray transfer. Could it have been better, yeah sure. But it is pretty awesome in its own right. The thing that stood out most for me was the way the colors popped. It was a huge improvement over all the other transfers I had seen. Of course, MM2 is one of those movies that I just have to watch whenever I run across it on TV. So I was used to seeing the grainy, color muted version on broadcast TV, and that was the way I remembered it. So, compared to that, the Blu-Ray was night-to-day difference for me. It was actually the first film I purchased on Blu-Ray, along with "The Fifth Element".
