I remember Anklecranker telling me that some guys at ROADWAR, TX in San Antonio years back showed up in Pirate hats.
Myself, I never did see the connection.. ? They : "They" being Max & say Blackbeard or Jack Sparrow .. might have shared the basic survival instincts In each separate environment, but that's about it.
Maybe I'm just a purist when it comes to the trilogy.
You could have made WATERWORLD using Rockatansky's character, but he would have looked WAY out of place on the deck of the Black Pearl.

Yes, there was a guy who showed up wearing a leather hat that was folded up like a tricorne hat. (You can see the pics on RoadwarUSA.com .) They are popularly known as "pirate" hats, but were worn mostly by non-pirates throughout history. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tricorn
On the one hand, I hate to criticize fans who try to be imaginative and innovative with their costuming, but on the other hand, I think it would be nice if fans wore stuff to the events that was in the basic style of the Mad Max world. There was a definite lack of that at the Texas event. Guys like "Humvee Driver" show that you can still come up with your own stuff while staying well within the Mad Max style.

I agree with Karol. In MM2 there was that pink guy. And in Thunderdome there was the guy with the cow car.
