In need of car advice

Post by Brownie »

I have been looking for V8 and running gear for my bopper. The other day I had a fella offer me a non genuine V8 xf sedan, it is running a nice 302 with C4 and standard borg warner diff and other goodies like extractors, med rise inlet manifold, lowered suspension, SAAS interior, auto meter gauges and a great paint job just to name a few. The car has not been regoed for over 12 months but is started reguarly and was last regoed in Qld with engineered stamp for the conversion, and the fella wants 5 grand for it. I had a quote for a 302 standard rebuild for just less than 5 grand and all I saw in this car was the running gear that would bolt straight into my bopper as the motor along with the rest of the car was only rebuilt about 3 years ago and has about 5 thousand Ks on it since the rebuild. With this information my question is "is this a good deal or can I do better ? " I guess I am just looking at the whole picture from the radiator to the diff in one hit.

Cheers,

Brownie

Just under $5grand for a rebuild?!!?? :o
Ok last time i had my 302 rebuilt it cost me $2600 (heads were done to run unleaded), that was in 2001 !
Surely the price hasnt gone up that much in 7 yrs?

What are you having done to it?

Not to put you off, but the problem is you dont know the car or the motor. You could be inheriting someone elses problems and you would be back to square one. Plus then you have whole car minus its engine and tranny to get rid of (an XF isnt worth much!). Even if its done only 5000km, it may have developed problems already due to misuse such as poor running in period.
We are 100% snafu....

Thanks Sam,

I only have one machine shop in town, I will chase up others around the area and see what I can come up with.

Cheers,
