TRUCKS! [Spike TV] is doing a budget resto on a Jeep just like that, in similar shape. You might want to check it out.

Ah, cool.. I'll try & check it out.
Not much I really plan to do to it if I get it.. A decent stereo, an External Spare Tire carrier, some better rolling stock (Nothing fancy, maybe some Black Cragar D-Slots & some more aggressive tread) and maybe a trailer hitch & a removable Roof cargo rack for Camping.
Oh, and my 2-meter Ham Rig & antenna

Actually the name Predates the Ham license by several years. (I think I adopted it in '98)draknoir2 wrote: Your screen name suddenly makes sense.
It's actually the name of a character in a book the (At the time Future) wife kinda sorta forced me to read that I adopted as a not-related-but-sounds-related-to-the-subject name on a now long dead board.
I kept it because it sounded similarly appropriate on several other boards including this one ("Deltafox x-ray") and I eventually ended up using it everywhere.
I've even got a friend of mine who does Needlepoint (In her spare time) making me a military style patch with my avatar to sew on one of my jackets.
Rather silly, to tell the truth..

Yeah... I did the same thing with the shoulder tats I designed for myself... turned them into embroidered hats.Foxtrot X-Ray wrote:

The name just sounded radio call-signy. I'm a retired USAF radio guy myself.

Another One
Got talked out of the Maroon Chero.
The main reason I'm allowing myself to be talked out of it is I'd have to repair the suspension damage in order to find out if the Transmission is any good.
If the Trans is bad, it kinda defeats the purpose of trying to save money by getting the Cheap one.
The other problem is that there are a fair number of different gear sets on the front axle assembly and it'd be a crap shoot trying to find one that matches the rear.
Got another one in yesterday that I'm told is "comparatively low miles", is drivable as is, but is harder hit. (Will require Panel Beaters instead of just me turning some wrenches)
So here I go again, digging up info so's I can decide.

Re: Cross your fingers for me
If you ask me, the last real Jeeps were built in the 70's. I had a friend some years ago who had a 77 CJ-5 similar to this one, which he had stuffed a 350ci Chevy into. It was a mud slinger.

Re: Cross your fingers for me
I liked the Wrangler one of our customers drove in a while back - about an 85, painted a flat, "worn" blue with a 1970 Dual quad 390 out of an AMX under the hood.
Kinda got a few less miles to the gallon than I'd prefer.. Fella said it got SIX in town.
(I'm trying to improve on the 14 my Mazda gets)
Egad! I just crunched some numbers and I'd have to fill the tank on that 390 Wrangler Four times a week just to get to & from work!!
Not worth it just so's I can think to myself "Dayum this is a Fun Car!"
True, it's a lot easier fixing some problems on an older car, but the reliability and improvements in fuel efficiency, reliability & driveability really make up for the inconveniences.
If I could afford multiple vehicles I'd certainly like have an older FSJ with a matching trailer in the garage for a camping vehicle
(2-Door Early 70's Cherokee similar to the "Bargain Beater" Cherokee built on the show "TRUCKS", 'cept with a 401)

As it is, I can afford ONE, so I have to go for a single vehicle that is a Compromise of everything I'd want in a Fleet.
My #1 Priority is the safe transport of my 2 y/o Son, you know..

Re: Cross your fingers for me
Oops!
Forgot to post pix of the actual car I'm looking at.
Checked over the new jeep and I've decided the original, Maroon jeep is the better candidate..

But here's the white one as well..

Need to make my descision ("Go with the Maroon one, or wait for a better one") by tonite.
