Max's Pump Shotgun?

Post by BFVGunner »

When Max and Jim Goose come upon the the hacked up chevy Impala. Max is carring a pump shotgun. I was wondering what it might have been? Also any clues as to what type of revolver Goose carried and the scoped rifle that Roop was using? As I have said in an earlier post I am putting together an MFP impression. I am expanding on MFP weapons and gear and any other type of equipment that the may have had. I am researching 1970's era police uniforms and equipment.

Thanks,

Allright, thanks to the film being on tonight i know. The double barrell thats fired at the night rider is definately a stevens model 311, maxs pump shotgun looks to be an 870 wingmaster. The guns never shown prominently, but thats what it appears to be and as the remington 870 was the most mass produced shotgun of all time, well i figure it prolly is.

Nice work, Suede. Can you ID Roop's rifle and scope too?

Aw christ man, didnt think to pay attention. was a few rum and cokes in at the time, wrote them down as i saw em. But Roops rifle was definately a mauser action, but numerous companies made em, id have to take a real look to identify. No idea about the scope, though i can possibly get my old dad to check it out sometime, he knows more than ill hope to know.

The "ww1" pistol used was a webley .455 dubbed "old and ugly" by the brits, the auto that bubba? (i forget who held it at the beach) held was a ww1 era mauser "broomhandle"(unmistakeable). I dont remember what max's shotgun was, i turned off the movie and hit the sack after the pump shotgun scene.

I remember six shotguns from the first film.

Double barrel that Roop aimed at the Nightrider (barrels looked short)
Double barrel that May had (long barrels)
Double barrel that Max had at May's
Sawed off double barrel that Max had
Double barrel that the Toecutter had on the beach

Single barrel pump from the Impala wreck

Wonder if any of the double barrels were the same gun, wouldn't surprise me.

Since doubles barrels were cheap and plentiful, I imagine they are almost all different guns, likely borrowed for the production. And since there is no mechanism to operate like a semi automatic, they're really easy to deal with using blanks and special loads.

Max's pump shotgun is definately not an Rem 870, it does look similar to a Mossberg 500 series or JC Higgins and some of the other older/rare models that share similar design.

It's not likely that they changed the barrel lengths on any of these guns, other than the cut off coachgun Max ends up with. Mays gun had hammers on it. Roops was a shorter 18" or so model. I think the Toecutters gun at the beach was around 26" , but Maxs gun at the farm was a longer 28-30" model. They could be the same gun, but I think the farm double was a longer barrel.
