Re: project photos
I assume that the front flares are the same (SLR's) then cut down even further? The shape looks identical.
Re: project photos
Hi Mickey.
Do you mean my front flares?
The ones in the photo are also another trial run lol.
And yes they are Toranas but a bit of butchering went on there as well. The back part of the front flare are the front part of a torana front and the front part is torana rear. Does that make sense? lol. I joind the 2 parts together and overall they are a few inches longer than the standard torana flare. They are not quite as wide as standard torana but do look way to wide for a BoB.
The reason for the large width was so they would line up to the wider sides on the van nose cone.
It doesn't look right so back to the drawing board so to speak. The van nose is gettin a bit of butchering now and I will bring the side in more, then the flares will be redone much narrower and made to fit the nose. And again, I will most likely use choped up Torana flares as they are cheap and you can find them at most swapmeets or ebay. This time however the flares will be 4 fronts joined together so the flare looks almost factory, that is the hardesr part, making them look like they are not an add on.
Even though I am not going for an absolute movie correct car I still want the car to look good, even with a flat black paint. I will upgrade to a profesional paint job in the future when I save a few more pennies.
So, if you are planning to use do it yourself flare, just be aware that it is a bit difficult and it doesn't help if you are hard on yourself like I am. If you can get a set of flares thet don't need any modifacation you will save yourself alot of work. I probably am not the best to give advice on this subject as I am basicly just making it up as I go, and learning through trial and error, but however small my advise I hope I have helped you any way. Bare in mind that I have spent for money now making my own than I would have buying them, but I have now gone past the point of no return plus, I don't see the point in have the correct flares and not everything else, but that's just me, I believe that it's up to you to go whichever way you want with your own car.
Thanks
Dan

Re: project photos
Mad DAn,my BoB was built by G&G and had the modified Torana rear flares that just made the car look wrong.I have since replaced them with an awesome set from Troy of MadMaxCars,as well as replaced the nose cone. The quality of their fiberglass (or carbon fiber) pieces is top notch, thick and sturdy.Cheers,Bill

Hey pat. definately no need to be sorry about haveing a moan. I too have been through this. I am now on the verge of scraping the whole BoB thing for the time being. I'm in the very early planning stages of something else with my coupe.cob115 wrote:Gday Dan,looking good ,but iv got a nasty coment about Advance fibre glass ,the guys who suplyed you with the fibre glass stuff ,there f@#%$ing pricksi bought my stuff from them last year ,thankfully it was just the front ,not the roof or boot or flars,i live in Adelaide so i thought this is good, a local,i went to see him after seening his info on the replica builders section,i told him what i was building and does he have the correct parts??,Yes he said iv got the roof boot etc all correct and sold lots to builders around the world. What a flat out a hole! if any one is thinking of buying his stuff DONT!!! sorry to have a moan ,hope the build is going well cheers pat

Re: project photos
Hi Bill. oh the rear flares........ I tried everything to make em look right with no luck. I didn't even have any luck in purchasing some. I was never going to have a full "correct" car but I still wanted it to look good. Many have succeded with the "wrong parts" and have modified them and generaly mucked around with them and pulled it off, 3 cheers to all of you.torinoscj wrote:Mad DAn,my BoB was built by G&G and had the modified Torana rear flares that just made the car look wrong.I have since replaced them with an awesome set from Troy of MadMaxCars,as well as replaced the nose cone. The quality of their fiberglass (or carbon fiber) pieces is top notch, thick and sturdy.Cheers,Bill
Unfortunatley I have totally lost interest in building the BoB for now, mainly due to a lack of money as if i do it I will start from scratch with an intire new kit in the future. Next time I will look at what I'm getting. Go luck with YOUR build also

Re: project photos
I'm not really scraping it. more like postponeing it. It just cant be rushed. theres far too many beutiful exampled out there for me to just slap it together and paint it sub-frame black. Mabey with a 400 horse street strip engine............
