Hey everyone,
I haven't posted here in years, probably nobody remembers me, but I have a question about rugby (union) and can't find the answer on the net.
I played rugby for about a year and half in college and just recently started practicing with a local mens league. I haven't played in 4 years, so needless to say my skills and knowledge or rules are a bit rusty.
Tonight, we were scrimming and there was a ruck, or at least I thought it was. The ball was down, I was on defense, and it looked to me like the ball was still in play. So I dove into the ruck (from the front), even though no one else was there. The guy must have not been expecting it coz he went down very easily and drove my head into the ground, then got really mad.
I still dont get what I did. I thought the ball was in play until somebody picked it up, and I could engage the ruck up to that point. But the guy told me that the ball was "on the other side" and so I shouldnt have rucked.
Can anyone clarify what I did wrong and how not to do it again?
Thanks
