American Alternatives

Post by Dive »

Greetings everyone, I just signed up but have been reading the forum for a while. While I don't plan on building a replica quite yet, I am still intrigued by the Aussie muscle cars and was hoping to get some opinions on some American alternatives as I don't see myself importing an XB coupe or a Landau. Like I said, I don't plan on making a replica but would like to possess a street version of an XB or a Landau as portrayed in the film. After doing some research I believe the closest I could get to one of these would be something around a 1971-1976 Ford Torino GT. Is there any American Ford that is more similar than this range?

Thank you for any opinions.

Welcome. If you scroll down and read the thread "Building my own Interceptor, some questions", there was a longer, detailed discussion as to which vehicles could be used to make an "American Interceptor" as well as a few others cars for the Pursuit/Interceptor sedans.

A 70-71 Torino looks the closest in an overall view, but it's 18" longer than a Falcon, and the MACH I has the right looking front, but again is too long and really dis-proportionate. Other choices have ranged from Nova's, Mavericks, Javelins, Matador's(?), even a European Ford Capri...

Greetings and Welcome!
Always good to have new folks who are dig Mad Max join the party!

The posts above pretty much say it all. A proper "American Interceptor" would probably have a 71 fastback Torino unibody grafted to a 71 mach 1 front clip, possibly with a 69 mach1 cowl thrown in between the hood and windscreen.

However, at Roadwar NW I saw so many REALLY COOL fan built Mad Max "Inspired" vehicles, which were all based on US cars. Totally cool, and all it took was some imagination to be one of the "Vermin".
