XBGT on Channel 7...on Woodward Ave.
XBGT on Channel 7...on Woodward Ave.
Every year there is an event called The Woodward Dream Cruise, where cars from all across the country come to drive up and down Woodward Avenue in an annual event that started back in the day with the local cruisers and street rodders. Now, over a million people show up with their cars, trucks, slingshot dragsters, BTTF DeLoreans, wire-frame VW's, Futura Batmobile, pro-stock trash trucks...anything goes as long as it has an engine. The police will let you run non-street legal vehicles as long as you're cool and not rodding it. The actual event used to be just the three days of the weekend, but now, it runs all week prior, during and a little after the weekend now. The MIS NASCAR race is also held on the same weekend.
Anyway, last night I was watching the 5:30PM news on Channel 7 here in Det"riot." They were doing a bit on "The Cruise" and I was watching the cars go by in the background during her piece. There was a nice, slammed silver 69-72 Nova II, a maroon Mustang, and just when the piece was just about over, a dark grey or black with silver cutout XBGT coupe turns right onto Woodward...right behind the anchor! I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It was in the shot for maybe 3-5 seconds at most, but you knew immediately what it was! I'm used to the shape and design of the car, but to happen chance see it on the news was...I don't know...like being in the Twilight Zone. I jumped up in my seat and shouted "XBGT Falcon! It's a Falcon!" Then, I immediately wondered "Who is it?" I only know of four within a 60 mile radius of me...Bob Franks orange/black XBGT clone coupe , John Maddoxs purple/silver XBGT clone coupe, No. 248(?) XC Cobra coupe, and my XB MFP Interceptor coupe.
WHO'S IS IT???!!!

Ya got me, Bronze, no clue.
I did consider bringing the Hellcat down for the cruise... I wonder how that would have went over...

My buddy with a RHD Dodge Daytona (That I brought back from Oz) is right near there too, not sure if he had it out or not, but he has cruised around with it there on Woodward in the past

Re: XBGT on Channel 7...on Woodward Ave.
Speaking of Hellcats...where's Lex? I've e-mailed her a couple of times now and heard nada? She gone AWOL on us, or just getting ready for Fest?
A buddy that works upstairs saw (and later talked to) a guy who just imported a dark blue GT351 XB coupe, and had it sitting out on Woodward Ave. He didn't know my name or was aware of any other cars in Michigan. That makes five that I know of now...

Jay, this sounds like it might be a great meeting place in the future for another U.S. Falcon gathering...

SCAR...I agree. The Avenue is absolutely insane during the day, so they block off the protected parking spots (theres a concrete curb median) on either side of the road and you reserve a spot by paying someone to get a ticket and spot number(Bob Frank has the info), and the spot is reserved for you all day if you need to leave or just want to get into the mayhem. Doug, Ann, Aeron and I were cruising North in my "Oddrod" and saw Bob's orange GT clone off to the left. We went and camped out with him for quite a few hours, just watching EVERYTHING on wheels go by. If we get ahold of Bob, I'm sure he'd be up for it. You and Doug are about 5.5-7 hours from my house if towing a trailer. It'd be cool to see even half of the 100yr number lined up on Woodward.

I'm only 3 hours from "Det'riot". If there is some Falcon event up there I would love to come, schedules permitting. It will still be a couple years before I will be able to drive my own up there though. In the meantime we could bring my wife's '66 Mustang.

I'm actually more like 9 hrs. or more away...according to mapquest, anyway. Still, I'd like to attend something that big and especially with other Falcons.

So Scar...do you still have your pink tutu from the 100yr? The cruise starts at about 8 mile if you need gas money...baaaad.
Seriously though, in about 18 months I'll have my car done and Steve might as well. So you, me, Doug, Steve, the Michigan guys and any others would be pretty cool, all lined up in a row like last time.
Steve, you and the missus are welcome to come and stay with us if you get back up this way again...Hotel Jay Z (the original one).

That's good with me. 2009 is plenty of time to save up and plan for it. Can't help with the tutu...Howard took it to Melbourne...
