: well, well, well i certainly used the right bait their didn't i.i have nothing against americans or their street machines but lets face facts if an interceptor replica is not built from a falcon it just aint a black on black is it.it is a street machine INFLUENCED by the greatest movie ever made(not a replica).leave the torinos, mustangs and whatever you think looks like a falcon to web pages dedicated to such cars and leave madmax sites devoted to madmax.

Umm remember where the Falcon, especially the XB got the NACA scoops from, the 71-73 Mustang Mach 1,plus wasn't the designer of the 72-78 Falcon an american?i think i read that in one of the Falcon web sites out there, now i'm not tryin to say that the falcon wasn't a Australian designed and built car it clearly was,but Dude we all said it before and w'ell say it again,WERE NOT USIN A TORINO OR STANG AND CALLIN EM REPLICA'S,THEIR INFLUENCED BY THE MAD MAX TRILOGY THATS ALL,THEIR BY FAR THE REAL DEAL XB FALCON!!jeez guy mellow out man.i run a site that is devoted souly to the 72-78 Falcons and Fairmonts cuz i think their the most beautiful lookin cars in the world.

: Y'know, this got me thinking....

: I've seen lots of video footage on TV of Star Trek conventions. Before you roll your eyes, here me out. A lot of people come dressed as different characters from the movies and TV shows, yet they all look a little different. Not everyone who comes dressed as a Klingon looks exactly alike. But they are all diehard Trekkies just the same.

: Another illustration, if I may....

: When a rock-n-roll band does a cover of another rock-n-roll band's song, it never sounds exactly like the original. Sometimes it sounds better, sometimes it sucks. But the reason they do it is because they love the original enough to want to put their own spin on it. Two musicians will often play the same piece of music two different ways. It's all in the interpretation.

: If a bunch of Americans want to pay homage to their favorite movie the best way they can with what they have to work with, I say let 'em! As far as I'm concerned, any well built muscle car that shows appreciation for the craft of car building and for car movies, Mad Max included, is O.K. with me.

: 'nuff said.

In the same vein, I saw a news report from Australia a week or so ago. The reporter lady was standing on a busy street corner, when a bright orange Aussie Charger goes by. It has a "01" painted on the side and a pattern similar to the confederate flag without stars on the roof. A General Lee clone done with a Aussie Charger?

and my friends pick on me 'cause I want to put a FACTORY roof spoiler on my Javelin?

>> well,well,well i certainly used the right bait their didn't i.

Bait, Huh? Sounds like someone's pickin' a fight. Don't it?

>>i have nothing against americans or their street machines but lets face facts if an interceptor

>>replica is not built from a falcon it just aint a black on black is it.

>>it is a street machine INFLUENCED by the greatest movie ever made(not a replica).

Well, DUH. That's what some of us have been sayin' all along. (Great Movie? YES. Greatest CAR movie? IMO, Yes. Greatest MOVIE? there are movies I think are better)

>>leave the torinos, mustangs and whatever you think looks like a falcon to web pages

>> dedicated to such cars and leave madmax sites devoted to madmax.

So anything NOT Mad Max shouldn't be allowed?

Why not?

Since I found this board, I've seen threads about weapons & ammo, cars (American & Australian), model kits, toys, schools that suck, leather jackets, Peter's new baby, and what kind of beer we like. Some of these folks are FRIENDS. I see nothing wrong with getting "off topic". This ain't work, and this ain't school. Folks can talk about what they want. If a guy want's to talk about his new car, or his new daughter, fine by me.

"Off topic" Hummph. Max Max might be the center subject, but it's not requred to be the ONLY subject.

How about an Astro Van with a similar paint treatment, spoilers, a small-block V8 and nitrous?

I drive one (Not like what I just suggested, it has a V6 and is blue and white), and have it up here at college with me since Spring Break, which was two weeks ago (Early I know, but I didn't draw up the schedule for this semester).

Anyone who is interested in seeing it and wants specs can find it at my webpage.

My Mach 1 was built in 70 - the XB in 73, so an argument could be made that the Interceptor / Falcon was INFLUENCED by our American Detroit Iron and musclecars - namely the Torino / Mustang. :-)

I agree that the best route for a replica is an OZ Falcon. Still - some folks are quite happy to have a wicked Torino or Mustang with Interceptor styled styling cues - perhaps even using the same roof spoiler etc. Just as Max' ride borrowed from the US - Weiand, Scott, GMC - so too can some interesting vehicles be assembled in the states using Oz and US parts. Not original to film perhaps, but who knows what kind of interesting results it will yield. Probably the easiest would be a Max 2 Torino version with rear tanks and no monza nose, but square headlights and the rest done - blower setup, roof and boot spoiler and paint etc. In Oz, this may get a few lauhgs, but there are so many Americans who DON'T know the difference.

Regs,

Steve
Gotta hand it to ya treasure - the last of the V8 interceptors. Woulda been a shame to blow it up...

I agree with steve.

america dosent have the XA-XC falcons, but any effort made with interceptor styling cues deserves credit. Work with the tools you have, conquer those obstacles (not least of which is totally different shaped front on the torino) and people will respect and appreciate the efforts all the more.

As an aussie, I think it would be great to see just how well an enterprising person could try to replicate an interceptor using a combination of your US torinos/mustangs.

why dosent someone over in the america attempt that?

Steve's right about people not knowing the difference. Some years ago I built a pseudo interceptor out of a '73 capri. It had two spoilers and side pipes with a 351C for power. I drove it around for a while with no hood and people everywhere asked if this was the same car as in the movie!
