Okay, so I'm a complete novice when it comes to car restorations. But I'm gonna give it a go anyway.





My question is, what's the best sort of primer to use on the body after I've sanded all the old paint off? A quick check on the Net showed that there's dozens of different primers available, so which one do I use so that the car doesn't rust away in the meantime before I get it to the paint shop?

Recommended Is to apply a epoxy primer to the metal first . (1 full coat) . This is for adhesion and prevent rusting while bodywork is being done. . It will not have to be removed before any bodywork but It must be sanded (not heavy) with 80 to 100 grit after curing . next step is Bodywork, (yes bondo )over the epoxy primer. it is the preffered method now. Then another thin single coat of epoxy to sandwich the body work. As far as a primer / filler for blocking ,a acrylic urethane like PPG k38 works great. I prefer dupont's epoxy primer and PPG's filler primer (k-38). There will be some old school guys that will disagree but this is the way the new epoxys and urethanes work nowadays. lacquer primers are old school and provide no adhesion and corrosion protection.

Yes yes he does. i too will agree that is the proper way to go . also go to a good supply shop . find one that has at least a gearhead that mixes paint those are the ones who will help you out the most .
