Max's Revolver from Mad Max

Does anyone know what kind of revolver max carried in Mad Max? I'm trying to get a replica costume together.

I'd guess a .38 Police Special with 4 inch barrel.

You'll notice I said "Guess", right?

Figured the ".38 Police Special" is a likely candidate as it's one of the more common Police Service Revolvers.

It does look similar to my Dad's .38 from what I recall of seeing the gun in the movie.

Perhaps if one of our members is very familliar with the exact model, he/she might recognize it from the limited exposure in the film.

However, while I'd be able to spot out most H&R revolvers fairly readily as long as it's not in the Holster(As to Make & Caliber at least), I'd be hard pressed to pick out exactly which Model they are.

So even if someone owns the same model and handles it frequently.. it may not be as easy as it sounds to Spot it.

For Costume Purposes.. I don't think you'd lose any points for Authenticity by picking a 4" S&W when the real thing was a Colt or by choosing a .38 when it was really a .45.

Oh, and I don't recommend using real weapons in costumes.. My (Unsharpened) favorite Broadsword has gotten me LOADS of attention at Holloween, many a time.

Caught the attention of a Cop one year at an indoor Trick or Treat at the Shopping Maul where the Mum-in-law works. (I was in my Viking suit passing out candy)

Cop: Is that thing real?

Me: Um, Yes sir. Not sharpened, though.

Cop: Cool, can I see it?!

So there's this cop playing with my favorite Broadsword in the Mall..

I guess the cops took pictures of each other playing with the thing in the Evidence locker when it got recovered from the Burglary.

I'd have to agree that using a live or even deactivated gun as part of a costume would be more trouble than its worth. You might look for an airsoft gun that looks close to a Smith and Wesson revolver. Thats what Max's revolver looks like to me. I'll check the dvd later and see if I can tell anymore details.

Karol over at http://www.madmaxcostumes.com thinks its a Smith and Wesson Model 53 revolver. I googled that model to get a pic of it, and low and behold; I have a toy gun just like it. Uncanny. I've got a badge, another badge on the way, the name plate, the marksmanship? pin, the Abbyshot jacket and gloves, leather pants, light blue T-shirt, real handcuffs, and a nightstick that just has to be painted black. Its all coming together. I just need some good boots, the holster, and the sunglasses. A piece from here, a piece from there...

A couple a weeks ago I was at a costume convention where they had real police for crowd control. I was a little worried about walking around in my Road Warrior costume with the Airsoft shotgun. But the cops not only recognized me as Max, but they loved my costume! (Being cops, I guess they would like a movie cop) The also liked (and approved of) my shotgun. We were like kids for a few minutes there, showing off our respective cool equipment. A very cool meeting.
