Warning: Fake 'Original' Badge

Post by Karol »

Just wanted to send a warning to anyone who's willing to pay $750+ on Max's original badge from the movie:

http://cgi.liveauctions.ebay.com/ws/eBa ... AMEWA%3AIT

It is not real. This is the "imagecolor" badge that has been selling on eBay in recent years.

It is EXACT in EVERY WAY to this "profiles-in-history" badge and even comes with an EXACT nametag. The font, letter placement, everything match up to the micrometer.

See for yourself:

This badge is not the original. Do not buy it. It might come from a reputable prop house, but it is NOT the orginal badge.

Also compare to Goose's badge here (especially font & letter placement):

This is not the first time someone has tried selling costume parts from the movies (that they claimed were original but where not) for loads of money.

Thanks for looking out for us Karol.

Someone submitted a post over at my site, http://www.madmaxmodels.com, claiming the badge was real and added a link to the auction. Would you mind adding a post there about your assessment of this 'real' badge?

Regards,

Ya, without some documentation of autenticity it's just to risky.

I guess the logical question would be what happened to the original prop badges? Or the original uniforms even?

I sent the seller a question asking for documentation of authenticity. Needless to say I have not heard back from them. Many items listed by this seller for top dollar lack any documentation.

Here is the message I sent to them:

Can you provide doucumentation that this is an authentic prop item and not a reproduction from one of several vendors?

Here is the response I recieved today from profiles-in-history:

Thanks very much for the info. After our own reserach, we've decided to withdraw it from the sale and return it to the consignor.

Another fraud smashed to keep the sanctity of the MAD MAX universe!
