Post by DetritusMaximus »

I like 1, 2, 4, and 7.

2 needs the Interceptor nose.

Also, how about a Rin Tin Tin "Wanted' poster? Anybody remember the 70's Saturday morning show, "Run, Joe, Run"? Around the time of Shazam and Isis. Oooohhh.....Isis.....what was I talking about?

Now, everyone needs to help me with something....I need cheerleaders (cohorts). I wanna convince Mitch to go with a 5.8 Windsor instead of the Cleveland. I know this seems like sacrilege, but you see we have all these early 90's fuel injected 5.8 W trucks around and there are several companies that make bolt-on belt driven centrifugal superchargers (Powerdyne, for instance) for that motor.

The motor and fuel injection (not to mention the AOD trans) can be had fairly reasonable. And the supercharger kits are about $3k.

It's an idea I've had kicking around in my head for awhile. I wanted to do a BoB variant ('85 car show, sans blower sticking thru the hood) or a straight MFP sedan, but still have it supercharged. This seems like a realistic way to go to achieve the spirit of the movie and still maintain streetability and affordability. I'd rather have a functioning supercharger under the hood than a fake above it, and not be a maintenance nightmare. Or worry about someone stealing the carbs off the top of the 6-71. That would make for a bad day.

Plus, since I like sticks, Ford has this nice T-56 manual trans. Both 5th and 6th are overdrives. 5th is .80, 6th is .62. Now, just think about that combination for a few minutes......

Ah dear ...

I wish I'd resisted looking at these ...

Any chance of seing a rendering of # 4 with an L88 scoop, yellow wheels and the mfp shield on the front guard as on # 5 ?

I hadn't thought of puting the nosecone in the shed on the XC sedan ... until now ... GGRRRrrrrrr

Brilliant work! All very good concepts.

I AM partial to #1 (the K-9 car) and the nosecone on #4 is pretty much as cool as I thought it would be. Pete, I say go for it. Try it on for size and see if you like it. Especially with the L88 scoop!

Mr. Maximus, I think you need to take the plunge and get a Falcon. Then you can do the blown Windsor with a manual. Sell off Opels and RX-7s. If you get a Falcon, I'll get rid of the Chrysler and a Camaro.

Anyway, not sure if I like the nosecone or the bullbar better for a K-9 car. I do like the lines of the striping. The blue hood balances all that yellow.

Thanks for doin' the drawrings. Everybody seems to be enjoying them.

MITCH: I'll draw up #1 with the Concorde nose as well. Do you have a car/unit/badge number yet? I don't know if the K-9 should be white with black outlines or black or all white. Do you want the bonnet stripes to go all the way over and tie into the rear, or stop at the base of the windscreen? I...I...I NEED some direction, man...lol.

Awright, I know how it is to have a meddlesome designer micromanage the insignificant details and ignore the real issues, so here goes...

Version 1:
  • Car #1 with stock XB nose and bumper guards/overriders.
K-9 in all black on the front guard as/is, with MFP shield in appropriate place on rear pillar.
Bonnet stripes (blue in middle, red to outsides and white pinstripe separations between colors) should end at windscreen.
No blower, but include Cobra Jet scoop.
Vinyl sticker on rear side windows should read Caution: Police Dogs. 'Caution' in bigger letters with 'Police Dogs' about 3/4 size underneath. Black print on yellow background.
Car number on top should be 303
Lettering across boot can read Pursuit, K-9 or Canine Unit in white. What'cha all think?
    Maybe add some whip antennas?

Version 2: Car #1 with nosecone. All else as above.

We'll start there. I do like the look you came up with for car #1 the best. The other option is to go with the Rammer version (bullbar, etc) and more of a Big Bopper/March Hare color scheme. I think mixing the bullbar and K-9 motif is overdoing it.

I hope you're having fun with this. I appreciate the illustration of all the concepts, but please don't feel that you are obligated to do any of this. The minute it begins to feel like work is the time to stop.

Now get back to coloring me some pretty car pictures dammit!

Cheers,

Mitch

Aw....just gave me an idea....

orange Valiant Charger, #01 on the side and the Australian flag (or some relevant alternative) on the roof. With the requisite 'roo bar.

The Dag boys, Bo and Bruce.

Can't forget Boss Wog, either.

Hey Bronze, great drawings mate!! I think you were heavily influenced by Starsky & Hutch's car in drawing number 6 or is that just a freaky coincidence? I liked number one but number 7 seems the best for me at least. K-9 cop cars are a breed apart (pun intended) from a regular coppers car so perhaps it ought to be more distinctive. Can't go wrng with MFP donw the side though.

An MFP dog handling unit sounds like a great idea Mitch (can you tell I just found this thread today) Just be sure to have little logos down the doors or front wings, like the pilots of WW2 had for thier "kills". Little silhouettes of dogs chasing bad guys missing the seat of thier pants, or left arm. Better yet little silhouettes of a dog holding a severed left arm in it's jaws. If you get tugged by the law for driving a "replica police car" maybe it'll give them a smile instead of you getting a ticket.

Just a thought

Again, great drawings Bronze21.

Here're some other cop cars that might be a good source of influence Mitch

Makes me wonder why there are 5 cops hovering around this car, do they suspect it might get stolen? Are are those vain Italian cops hoping that women will find them more attractive if they stand near it?

And finally..... "Manila's Finest."

Hehehehheheheee That Poilce dept has a big budget doesn't it? Still 'tis better than a horse... just not as fast.
