DetritusMaximus, just what was the US Ford Maverick?? Got any pics?
I take it you were referring to the rebadged Nissan Patrol. I don't know what you've got against them, I had a '94 GQ Patrol 4.2L Diesel wagon & that thing was indestructable. In my opinion, one of the best vehicles I've ever owned. I'd have another one tomorrow if it suited my needs at this point in time.
No slight to the vehicle in question, but to US Maverick fans, finding the name used a truck, a rebadged Nissan no less, is less than appealing.
Yeah, I can see that. If you grew up with those being what you knew as a Maverick, the Nissan 4x4 would present a bit of a shock. Here in Oz, the rebadged Nissan was the first useage of the name Maverick as far as I'm aware (but I could be wrong- it HAS happened once before!)
Funny though, I Googled "ford maverick" and saw those coupes along with a few heavily modified ones, but it would seem possibly the European market has nabbed the name for what looks like the Mazda Tribute which Ford Aust. rebadges as the Escape- weird!
"As long as the paperwork's clean, you fellas can do what you like out there!"
Years ago under some bizarre plan by the government here in Aust. many cars were rebadged (some thing about givin the car manufacturers a better deal).
The Patrol/ Maverick was one.... They also rebaged the XF (?) Falcon ute with a BIG NISSAN sticker on the tailgate....( I think thats all they changed!?).
The (VN? to VP?) Holden Commodore was rebadged as a Toyota Lexus (though they did change a few minor things, including the ECU Chip!)
The Suzuki Swift was a Holden Barina.....
And the Ford Lazer was a Mazda 323 ? (or was it the other way round?!?!)
Thanks for posting them. I got to the show at 6:30 AM so I could park on Cobo Hall roof, and ended up with a little over two hours to kill. The above sketch was the result of leaving me alone unsupervised with a pencil and paper at a car show...lol.
As soon as I got in the door, I made a beeline to the Challenger to get some clean pics. By the second time I made the circuit, you couldn't even see the car for all the people. The model/spokesperson asked if DCX should build it...and you should of heard the big "YES!" comment in return. In person, the Challlenger has a greater presense than the Camaro, which looks like an angular Corvette rear coupled with the grille of the '99 Nomad concept that gives it a funny face look to it. It does have a nice center section by the quarters, and the greenhouse shape is sleek.
My vote is "Build the Challenger, and I will drive it!"
In the news now (internationally), some chick snuck into the Dodge display around 2:30AM and proceeded to display herself buck naked in front of several "fan-boys" taking pics splayed on the hood of the Challenger concept. She was caught a few minutes later and hauled off by security. The DCX spokesman said "I don't care if she looks like a million bucks...our car cost two million." The pics are on the internet now.
Mavericks (US-based) were in the 60's and 70's that look sort-of like the Max Falcons...
