That Fairlane concept looks like the result of an SUV mating with a Mini Cooper.

And wtf is the deal with Ford's ugly front grilles that look like chrome window blinds? I like the new Fusion, but would get that grille painted the same color as the body.

larger than life and twice as ugly

DetritusMaximus, just what was the US Ford Maverick?? Got any pics?

I take it you were referring to the rebadged Nissan Patrol. I don't know what you've got against them, I had a '94 GQ Patrol 4.2L Diesel wagon & that thing was indestructable. In my opinion, one of the best vehicles I've ever owned. I'd have another one tomorrow if it suited my needs at this point in time.

All I can say about this Forum topic...and the thread as a whole is..IT'S ABOUT BLOODY TIME!!!!

The car industry has been so boring for the last 10-15 (oh what the hell..20) years.

car designs sanitized by commitees, with each comittee member wanting to put their mark on the car so they can brag to their mates..."see that umbrella sticking out of the bonnet..that's my design cue!!!"...forget the fact that the resu;ting car looks f**king rediculous with an umbrella in the bonnet!!!

the other way they (commitees) destroy car designs is when they try to make everyone happy...

like designing sports coupes with room for rear passengers/boot space (IMHO all 2+2 sports cars are the ugliest things on the planet)

or changing designs for young people to be more "conservative" to win over older customers etc.

You can be Peter Acardiplane and Lee Iococaa (sp?) never took no sh*te from no commitees..and look at their designs...they're the ones being rehashed in the above pictures....30 years later!

I'm done now!:)

Here's a shot of a Maverick (blue) and it's sister, the Mercury Comet. I think these are 1971s.

No slight to the vehicle in question, but to US Maverick fans, finding the name used a truck, a rebadged Nissan no less, is less than appealing.

Just funny sometimes what some will choose to bash..

Talked to a guy recently that just loved the late '90's Ford Ranger pickup, yet bashed the Mazda B-Series pickups as having bad engines, transmissions, axles etcetera..

Swap some sheet metal around and they're the same truck.

And just monday, a co-worker was asking me about the "Mustang lookin' thing" parked next to my pickup.

After I told him it's a Mercury Capri, he said "You shoulda got a mustang, they're built better and they're faster"

Huh? Image

the blue Maverick above is a GRABBER MAVERICK. These Hi-Po Mavericks were available with 302's linked to a floor shifted 3 speed syncromesh and a 2.79 ratio rear. That terriffic blue color is GRABBER BLUE. In 1976 the 302 option was available with a 4-speed but the package was called the Maverick Stallion. The super light body made 'em rockets with the small block. Swap the 302 out for a 351 and the fun realy begins!
