The "first" batmobile is indeed an awsome thing. Best one ever. But it is not useable as a Mad Max car. Far in the post apocoliptic world it is practical impossible to build such a car. Because it is not based on an existing car chassis, but completely custom made. It contains a lot of modern technolochy. The steering indeed for exsamle. And where would you find a complete well equipped workshop with special tools and al the materials to build it from.
"UNDERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" is how far you take the fence with you.

Hi Nightwalker..

I would have to assume that in a film situation it would have to be a prototype vehicle that was found / stolen / accuired from perhaps in some military base, but the reality is that idea that is the plot that they used in Batman...

I guess that my message here is that George Miller

might have missed the chance to create a vehicle very similer to the new Batmobile for the still mothballed "Fury Road" . George had in MAX 1 and Max 2 a historicly significant film car, a genuine Hero car, just as cool as its human co-star. And it is that "Hero car to match the hero" that was missing from Thunderdone..

That is why Thunderdome even with its quite good three act sience fiction script... was still a bit average in the minds of us Hero car fans...

"Fury road" needs a hero and a hero car, because that is the Mad Max formula.

As for ride height wheels and turning circle, if you watch the DVD extras on the making of the car, you can see that it can "flick" turn on the throttle just fine (Imagine it with 800-1,000 hp), with the big underside skid plate, ride height would not be to much of an issue.

I think that I am getting at the fact that an insane skull car can still be built even these days. And also that like in the filming of Batman Begins CGI can be avoided in car chases, and the chases are the better for it.. and finilly that that the batmobile style vehicle could have been perhaps been used in Fury Road.

But that moment has perhaps past.. I hope not, I hope that George Miller can again give the world another true and historic hero car. Siutable for the MAD MAX legend.

I was priveledged to get up close to the Bale Batmobile when it came to Toronto to promote the film. Awesome machine up close, thought it looked like a cross between a Lambourghini and a tank! Just picked up the 1/18 scale die cast from Hot Wheels...very cool...and heavy!!

Gordon,

I fully agree with your take on the "hero car", and that being one of the failings of Thunderdome. It's like having Roy Rodgers without Trigger, or the Lone Ranger without Tonto. I also agree that the Batmobile it has the look of post apocolyptic beast.

I am a little confused about the design concept though. Why the split front end? Don't get me wrong, sure it looks cool, but what is the practical purpose? I fail to see any atvantage, especially militarily, of weakening the front steering and suspention this way. As previously mentioned the unprotected front tires would be easily compromissed. Not very practical from a military perspective.

As much as I think this is a truly bad @$$ looking vehicle, I don't think it meets the reality based criteria that Miller established in the first film. What caught us all(peticularly those of us in the U.S.) about the BoB is the almost recognizable look of an almost familiar car. I think our hero needs something a little less super hero. After all, he's just a man, a man who's lost anything he's ever valued in life.

Don't get me wrong either. It's a very cool looking vehicle but I don't think the front suspension worked as well as intended. Watch for slow, wide turns. Throttle oversteering, like in the garage scenes, seems to be the only way to get it to turn fast. Kind of like a three wheeler bike that can't lean.

On the faster wide turn, the outside front wheel comes off the ground. Using an anti-sway bar would be almost impossible with the split front design. Most of the weight distribution needs to be at the back so it doesn't flip over. The duals might have been an afterthought.

The front was likely a torsion bar type. I can figure out the steering easy enough. Likely a steering arm/knuckle extending outward, close to 180 deg off the spindles' centerline, a couple trailing arms rearward to a bellcrank on either side and a basic rack and pinion set up to tie them together. I'm sure there are other ways but that seems the simplest.

Is it a fake or is it real ? IT LOOKS REAL !

Most likely it looks as if someone filmed the Batmobile with his Videocam, during the shooting of "Batman Begins" in Chicago. You can clearly see the set-cars and the cameracrews.

There are also shots of a police-car with "GPD" written on it along with an emblem, that definitely stands for "Gotham Police Departement".

Actually a prototype wouldn't have to be stolen/aquired from a military base - the National Holden Museum in Echuca has several prototype vehicles never commissioned by Holden, that were way ahead of their time. Also piles of spare parts etc,so that type of storyline could be feasible.Image

I agree this car would fit right in with MM4.

A lovely car. Could easily be madmaxified with a spiked plow ala the Mack at the front, to protect the tires. Obviously more ground clearance, dust, rust and mud is in order as well. :D

After reading this thread I remebered an experimental truck the US military is looking at, shown here:

I know it is not a movie vehicle but it certainly looks like something Max would have used if he could. I guess its an example of life imitating art...lol (I'm a newbee here so I hope this isn't too far off topic)
