Nightrider's nervous breakdown

I have a question maybe someone could answer. At the beginning of the

movie, Nightrider was evading everyone in the pursuit special he was

driving, but he didn't escape from Max. Yes, granted Max was driving an interceptor,

but nightrider as I mentioned was in a interceptor pursuit special, which is supposed to be a real bad-ass

of a car. They were on a straight road,

so regardless of how good a driver Max was, he shouldn't have been able

to catch him.. So, did Nightrider

basically just have a breakdown, and say, "Ah the hell with it, I'm tired

of running". As I recall, the passenger chick next to him asked him what

was wrong, and he just sobbed some hard luck story. Sooo.. did his car

give out, or did he?

Just wondering. Thanks for any possible information.

I have no explanation other than that this is a movie, or that Max's had a 351 and the Nightrider's had a 350, maybe 1 whole cubic inch can make a difference...hehehe.

good call jon. But remember how freaked Nightrider got when Max played chicken with him, then he couldn't believe the car was catching up. So he probably just started to give up when he realized that there was no escape. A quick side note, wouldn't it be cool to the guy like Max, just strike fear into guys with the mear sight of you.

Ok I just got the novel of Mad Max and it says that March Hare was in persuit of

Night Rider for almost a full day down the transcon one and that both cars

got pretty banged up so maybe that explains why Max caught him.

If you read a little more you'll see that it says the Night-Riders engine is damaged from the failed shotgun attempt on the Night-rider by Roop and Charlie. While they didn't "take him out" apparently some shotgun pellets must have caused some engine damage, giving Max's crisp, new and well maintained car the edge..

Reading the books fills in some gaps in the movie, dont you think?

Definately...By the way do you or anyone else know where I can get a mad max 2 novel...I can't seem to find one. I got Mad Max and Thunder Dome off of E-Bay but no one is selling Road Warrior! Kinda Sucks cuz I really want to read it!
